The real news to take from this is that The Witcher 2 sold 1.1million and only 270k were via digital distribution. I'm constantly hearing how Steam/digital is as big as physical sales but it seems that in this example it is still the minority by the long way at only around 25% of sales.

I wonder if other games follow this example.

I already said that you copy-cat.

Good sales. Im a bit surpised that only 25% of sales were digital since they say that the majority of PC sales nowadays are digital downloads.

The Witcher 2 is the kind of game that is biggest in Eastern and Middle Europe, where digital isn't as big. With games such as Skyrim, however, I think the ratio will be higher for digital vs. retail.

retail copy of TW2 was 120 pln is shops in Poland , Steam/gog versions were 45 euro so 180 PLN ;)

Yeah, steam is big... for 1$ games :D

When it will be the right time, I'll upgrade my GPU and I'll buy it too on physical support. Possibly a Witcher 1 and 2 collection, but first I'll have to play Gothic 2 and 3, I don't want to risk being disappointed by them if I play them after the Witcher. Luckily Skyrim and Fallout 3 are different enough to not present this risk, but they'll remain in my wishlist until special editions with enough expansions included are released and dropped to a price not too high... What with my backlog and my wishlist, I haven't enough time for all these awesome games!

The Witcher 2 is an exeption as they put a lot of effort into adding extra value to the retail versions with even the standard priced edition coming with a couple coins, paper craft, audio CD, making of, physical game guide and a map all in a solid box. and the fact that the game is 16+GB to download probably also turned some people to the physical copies. Also the limited edition sold out instantly as and the hardcore fans mostly prefer having something to put on their shelf. And also as has been said most of the sales were in Euroupe where retail PC games are still big, the USA is where more than 50% of PC game sales are digital the rest of the world is slightly less.

So basically the retail editions of The Witcher 2 were a bit special and hardcore fans like the box.

This is true. I got The Witcher Enhanced Edition as a birthday present a couple of years back and that thing is a real beauty. They know how to make a handsome package for consumers as far as physical copies go.

PS: Isn't the download around 12GB though? I seem to remember that. Still takes a long time unless you have a decent connection.

Every sale is deserved, and more besides. What a fantastic game.

I'm holding off on my second playthrough until all the Enhanced Edition stuff is out, but once it is...

it will sell a lot more when it hits xbox IF it gets some adds on the market place or has a demo.
no one has heard of the game on console.
