Because of enormous Wii and DS weekly sales this site put, many Nintendo fans ended up here

Nintendomination, Sony was doing bad, sales orientated, the one thing Nintendo crushed the competition with, ect.
i was nintendo fanboy, i only saw nintendo on my eyes, then in 2007 i discovered this site, because of sales i started to came to this site, because i love to see sales perform and all of that, then this site evolved, i like the design it atracts me and, the news, sales, etc. nowadays i has non-ninty consoles as well, i'm still a ninty fanboy, but not blind as i was, that only saw ninty, in my eyes, nowadays i know ninty mistakes, etc.
I found the site a long time ago. The sales data seem correct and interesting to me so I stayed here ever since.

I find it's because Nintendo fans have a lot of spare time on their hands. Besides the monthly Wii dust off before Granny's visit, there isn't much filling that schedule.
As for why they chose this site, probably because it gave them a weekly orgasm of charts. Meanwhile Sony fans were too embarrassed to put up a fight and I'm told Xbox gamers have no time for forums, they're too busy playing games.
Sales are the only thing Nintendo fans can proudly brag about to other console fans, so this is like a safe heaven for them. I mean, they're not gonna talk about what awsome graphics their games have or how many AAA titles were released this year on their consoles or how promising this new IP looks like, or discuss the new pretty update their online service recieved.

Five years ago, I was trying to follow sales tracking of the Wii vs competition, and after scouring through four other pitiful sites (NexGenWars and VGCharts.com, to name a couple. NexGenWars is still active!), I finally found VGChartz. Stuck around as a lurker for about six months before I finally registered summer of '07.
I don't quite align myself entirely as a Nintendo fan, though. I enjoy Nintendo's stuff the most probably, but I've played my 360 much more this gen than my Wii.

Because of the many great joke threads about Nintendo this last generation. This site had some of the most creative ones.

I came here for the sales data to begin with. But I stayed here for the mature conversations, and feeling of community. Back when I first became a member here, it was a much more mature site than most of the others. There was very little trolling and most people seemed to accept that not everyone HAD to own the same console. Other sites seemed especially hard on any one who was a Nintendo fan, stating that it was for "kiddies" and just a toy, not a real console (GC or Wii). Not surprisingly, most of those people were below the age of 15 (irony?). Although I still believe this site is of higher quality than most, it has been slipping a bit as it is being invaded by some haters and trollers, and we have lost many of our best members in the last year or so.
In the absence of evidence to the contrary, always assume you have the upper hand.
