This is the closest Nintendo has ever come to creating mature content, so I applaud them for their mishap.

this.  maybe it's a sign that nintendo will give us some awsome games. instead of enemies just poofing away they actualy... bleed out and die. or something

Yeah, because having something bleed out and die in a game makes it so much better.

While a squirrel fighting a piece of shit may seem utterly juvenile on its face, I guess it is pretty mature by Nintendo standards.

Sounds pretty damn mature to me but I am immature.

Apparently you're to young to remember the whole "controversy" of Nintendo forcing Acclaim to tone down the blood and gore content of the original Mortal Kombat on the SNES, which led to the game selling alot better on the Genesis and SEGA scoring some points at the height of the 16 bit wars.  This is also the point where the popular "Nintendo is for teh kiddiez" meme started to emerge among the gaming community, and it's only gotten worse as time went on.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

No, I've heard of that "controversy" before. Even though I wasn't alive then.
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard though. A game is no better or worse with or without blood and gore. To give one game higher points for including that is just plain ludicrous. I'm not directing this at you but I really hate when people call Nintendo a kiddy company just because of some certain (good) actions they have done in the past. Grrr! >_>

Didn't the SNES version have brown blood or something like that?  Then there was a code you could put in that unlocked red blood.

You have to understand that, at that time, video games were becoming more realistic.  The media was all over the games industry for every little thing.  You have people like Jack Thompson these days, crusading against violent video games like Grand Theft auto--the popular target even though games like Saints Row are MUCH worse.  Back then, we had a million uninformed, fearful Jack Thompsons.  Nintendo was actually applauded by a lot of these media groups while Sega was the target.  Made them seem more kiddy but it saved them a lot of bad press.  Of course, money talks.  By the time Mortal Kombat 2 came out, they were just as violent as the Sega version.

I remember little things like the Nes version of Earthworm Jim not having rotten fish or something, Poison being left out of Final Fight, etc.  Mortal Kombat, if I recall, even forced Sega to create some sort of crappy ratings seal.  Later, there was one embraced by Sega and Nintendo, and finally, the ESRB as we know it today.  The logic was "If we didn't police ourselves, the Government was going to do it for us".  Hate/Blame Nintendo for being kiddy but they did everything they could to try and keep us happy and keep Big Brother from shutting us down.

Here's a random video I found on youtube about Nintendo Censorship.  Not as awesome as I was hoping.  I'll try to see if a better one exists.

Be nice if they had MK 1&2 on the VC (I suppose Genesis version would be preferred). I guess they can't do that since the rights got all screwed up?

So I scanned every code in the video... lol... and one did have a web search result that was for a masturbation site. :/ I really don't understand how any of those codes could have ever gotten him directly to a porn site.

Yeah, it had like grey-ish "sweat" instead of blood when the characters would get hit, and alot of the fatalities were toned down in the SNES version.  I think there was a Game Genie code or something that gave you red "blood", but I'm not sure.  Here's a video I found of a pretty good comparison between the SNES and Genesis versions of the game, even though the reviewer seems a little too biased in favor of the Genesis version IMO...

The kids won't mind.
They have to learn the facts of life sooner or later!
