Yeah, because having something bleed out and die in a game makes it so much better.

Apparently you're to young to remember the whole "controversy" of Nintendo forcing Acclaim to tone down the blood and gore content of the original Mortal Kombat on the SNES, which led to the game selling alot better on the Genesis and SEGA scoring some points at the height of the 16 bit wars.  This is also the point where the popular "Nintendo is for teh kiddiez" meme started to emerge among the gaming community, and it's only gotten worse as time went on.

Didn't the SNES version have brown blood or something like that?  Then there was a code you could put in that unlocked red blood.
