FF: The Spirits Within did a helluvalot more to damage to the FF brand. XIII being on the 360 because PS3's install base wasn't enough at the time was just the icing on the cake.

Not big enough?? Is that why the PS3 version outsold the 360 in every region?? Despite the moneyhatting advertisement and it being heavily bundled with 360s (in the US)

Hmmm, I will agree that FFXIII got a big western push in its design, especially picking those awful songs from that one chick......leona lewis something something. Any who, I wouldn't blame the 360 entirely. I liked the game a lot. IN FACT, I just finished the game an hour ago after a long hiatus/break from it. The game was what it was. If you think it was awesome (like me), thank Square Enix. If it was the worst piece of shit you ever played, blame Square Enix.

I see a lot of fans of FF13 saying this and I always have to ask. How awesome can a game be if you felt the need to take a long hiatus from it?

I did the exact same thing and while I enjoyed going back to it that was mostly because I had already slogged through 14 hours of utter banality. I can in fact see from my achievements in the game. 12th of March 2010 then the next one I get is 8th of June 2011. The only Jrpg ever where I felt the need to stop playing in the middle of the story.

Also rccsetzer there are quite a few HD games with multiple discs that do backtracking. It is incredibly simple. Either you divide the world map into 2 loading areas. Or as is more often the case having backtracking isn't an issue at all. As it is the story related scenes that take up so much space. Take a look at FF13 and 13-2. With 13 they needed 3 discs, the main reason simply being because of the vast amount of FMVs. Whereas 13-2 which has far more backtracking fits on one disc. Also remember that the early disc based FF games had backtracking and were across multiple CDs.

Had they wanted they could easily have gone to 4 DVDs for the 360 version. Lost Odyssey had 4.

The problems with the FF series are entirely creative related. It will be very interesting to see if they stick with the same team for FF15. I hope they finally realise that  having the director of 10-2, 13 and 13-2 in charge is perhaps not a great idea. In fact just give the next FF game to Tri-ace and watch them make an amazing game.

Haha, as soon as I proof read my own post before submitting, I knew somebody would brign this up.

It's kinda strange but it is personally a big habit for me. I've been doing it since the PS2 gen. I mostly do this on RPG, having the longest story/overall hours of any genre. I play the hell out of it then I just stop and come back to it a few weeks/months from then. It's kinda subconcious, I don't really plan it out but I enjoy coming back to them after a break.

Some current examples, I am about 75% thru Eternal Sonata (chapter 5) on the PS3. I haven't played it in a good 3 or 4 months and my sis got it from her boyfriend back in '10. She beat the whole thing in a matter of weeks. I plan to finish it before summer now that I beat FFXIII. Another one would be Infamous 2. I got it on day 1 and I played thru about 30% of it then I stopped. My little bro beat the game in 4 days and I'm currently at 60% or so completion. I also plan to beat it before summer.

To finish off, even though it sounds like I didnt like the games cause I stop, I only have good memories from when I played them, so I make sure to finish them. It kinda hypes me up saying "ok time to finally finish _________."

It wasn't big enough at the time to justify keeping the game exclusive, especially with the high development costs... that's why Square made the decision to take the game to the 360 in the first place.  It was always going to sell more on the PS3 anyway, because that's the platform of choice for FF's target audience, the JRPG crowd.  The extra couple million or so that it sold on the 360 was just extra change in Square's pocket.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Actually ms paid them to bring it to there system and yes it damaged it a little because content was cut.

um no, MS was the ones who asked SE for FF13, not the other way around. Had MS not done so, I imagine that FF13 would have done just as well. As it had being multiplat

Wow, the Xbox haters will believe anything so long as it bolsters their displeasure in losing Final Fantasy as a Playstation exclusive.

Yeah guys, Square fundamentally changed, cut, and ruined FF13 after it was completed in the months they ported it to Xbox. Yeah, MS had a gun to Square head and forced them to make FF13 bad.

Or maybe, Square had already finalized FF13 before considering other platforms. Maybe they saw profit in porting it. Maybe Square "ruined" FF13 long before MS made any deals. And maybe haters are gonna hate.

A good example is the $50 million deal with GTA4.

Point be told, SE "good business decision" with MS money gun, cost them a lot more than what they thought. Delayed the game +1 year to make a port and cut content is a compromise I don't like.

CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 PRO

Even if this is exclusive only to the God send fucking station, this game still sucks.

Maybe the only way Square can "fix" the FF series is if they bring the series back to its roots... by putting the next game in the series exclusively on the Wii U!

Hey... it's not out of the question, with the Wii U launching this year, and the PS4 not coming out for at least a couple more years could give Nintendo a huge lead over Sony.

Personally, I can't wait for the inevitable "Nintendo ruined Kindom Hearts" thread if KH3 is confirmed for the Wii U.

Square was losing money hand over fist on FF13 development hell by overproducing it. They had artists wasting months designing rocks and trees. Not because they wanted them perfect, but because those employees where never told to do anything else so they just kept polishing their models. It lost direction and was growing into a  monster. Not a monster that could only fit on a Blu-Ray, a monster that could never be finished.  The game had grown beyond its scope and cuts were made to refocused the game. That all happened before the 360 was an option. The game was finalized and then ported to 360. Very little if anything substantial was cut and not so it would fit on 3 discs. The game would have been basically the same had it stayed a PS3 exclusive. You can't fundamentally change a game into a linier story based game in the months while it was ported to 360. It was always going to be linier because the Japanese like games about teen drama and overly convoluted plots played out in long intricately animated cut scenes.

Who started this ridiculous "360 ruined FF13" myth? Most likely fanboys steamed over their precious Final Fantasy going multiplatform. I find that hilarious because the series didn't start out on Playstation nor was FF13 the first multiplatform FF. Square ruined their own game by themselves by over producing it while it was still planed as a PS3 exclusive. The sooner people deal with that truth the better. But it seems to me that 360 haters would rather blame MS than Square.
