Forums - Gaming - Double Fine's adventure coming to PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android devices

Double Fine has just announced that its upcoming Kickstarter-funded adventure project will be DRM-free on the PC, Mac, and Linux when the project finally launches. A closed beta for Kickstarter supporters will be available on Steam.

"We got a little bit more money than we thought we'd get," Double Fine's Tim Schafer said in a YouTube video announcing the platforms. "So the game is going to be just a little bit better. Well, it's going to be a lot better, actually." The project will also be available on iOS devices and "certain Android phones."

Schafer also added that, due to the astounding amount that has been donated (now over $1.8 million!), the game will include full voice in the English version as well as subtitle support for French, Spanish, Italian, and German. Another few bucks and we're sure they'll add Klingon.

Why leave out consoles and handhelds?

Since there releasing this game themselves (without a publisher) PS3/Vita shouldn't be a problem I don't see why they would leave PSN out, it could be cost and with the PS3 being different to develop for but who knows

I wonder what would happen if most of the backers have a console. I think they will be angry right now.

No they wouldn't since from the start it was suppose to be PC only but with the amount of money the have recieved they have been able to get it onto other platforms.

I didn't donate for that! I want a 1.8 million dollar pc adventure!
Nah just kidding, the more exposure the better. And smart choice to go for subtitles, extra language voice overs is probably a lot more costly then getting a point and click adventure to run cross platform.

Well I must say I don't know how successful the game will be. I am betting it will do best on ISO and Android. Double Fine probably wanted to avoid consoles because they require more work. You need to buy Dec kits and train staff specifically for consoles. The game was always intended to be a very small budget title. I think Double Fine would rather put the money they would spend porting into developing a better game. I don't disagree!
