Hamilton leaving McLaren for Mercedes.

That might be a mistake IMO. But Braun, Lauda and Hamilton is a bit of a dream team I guess.

woah, they must be paying him a huge wedge,a bit ungrateful to mclaren if you ask me but i guess he wants to leave his parents and spread his wings he has been there a long time, the mercs won't be giving mclaren an engine soon will they so life might get tougher for mclaren in the near future,

mercedes is so big its hard to lose for him in the long run so a good move if all round if you think about it,i'm still a mclaren fan though,i hope they know how to build an engine

It will be interesting to see Hamilton in a really struggling car, if they don't improve next year. Merc has lots of work to do if they want their star driver happy.

Would have Ron behaved differently in 2007 if he knew Ham was going to leave them?

PS: McLaren is Button team now. I remember all the bashing he got when he decided to go there. Now his decision is justified, he's first driver in a top team.

what happens to mclaren when mercedes take their engine away, its soon isn't it

They have a contract up to 2015, and they can renew it. What they don't have from 2013 onwards is free engines., but I'm sure they can negotiate a low cost for them, being Mercedes engines or other manufacturer. McLaren Renault doesn't sound too bad.

right, that's interesting so being mclaren mercedes got them free engines then sounds like a good deal if they will start having to pay for them

i thought mercedes were going to be the only team with a current mercedes engine when it all starts but mclaren can still pay for one you think

Force India uses Mercedes engines, so I'm sure McLaren can use them, too, if they pay for them. AFAIK McLaren doesn't have any plans to produce engines.

WOW Hamilton to Mercedes for 3 years!

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Hamilton served his part to McLaren, what will be 6 seasons with them at the end of the year and since when he was 13 years old when he confirmed a contract for McLaren. I doubt whether this is about the money since he has plenty of it already and about him wanting a fresh experience in Formula 1 and what better way to join a team currently on the up-trend and him partnering an old friend in racing so it shouldn't take him long to be part of the family.

I'm so glad to see Sergio Perez sign a deal with McLaren, he's no doubt of the top talents of recent years by demonstrating his sheer speed and securing podiums. He should be a great partner to Jenson Button and I'm sure they will both be championship contenders.

Also I look forward to who will the new rookies will be for next year, I'm assuming Sauber will bring a new driver in and Williams need to sort out their weak line-up.

Of the 3 bottom teams I reckon Marussia F1 Racing will be the first to score points.

Now we are going to be able to accurately (more or less, actually, but still) how good Perez and Rosberg are Also, Alguersuari will likely be back with Sauber. Nice.

Prediction: both Hamilton and Button to beat their teammates by about 3:2 next year or even larger margins. Don't fool yourselves, after the apparent Alonso and Vettel success with the 1-2 driver scheme that's what both teams are aiming for.

so perez signed for mclaren then, that was fast, everyone thought he was ferrari bound

@kynes thats right focre india use mercedes but they don't win right now,i guess they make good money selling engines otherwise you'd thought they would try and win on their own and let the teams sort it out unless its in bernies contract

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

So now what happens with Sauber?
I think there's a chance they will promote Esteban Gutierrez from GP2 into a F1 race seat. Then maybe have Kamui Kobayashi/Esteban Gutierrez.
If not then i think it could be Kamui Kobayashi/alguersuari.

Im not sure how good perez will do with Mclaren, obviously he will be up there cuz he's in the right car to do so but whether he will out perform Button im not sure.
I think Perez 3 podiums have put a sort of false skill than how he normally races.. 2 of those results were all down to amazing thought out strategy from sauber, Putting him on hard tyres for a loooong period of time then when putting him on nthe fast option tyres for the remainder of the race while everybody else has got older tyres, he manages to race through on fresh rubber.
