Not Work Safe

I have never really followed this stuff other than having watch a retrospective but I have to say I agree with the conclusion he reaches more than anything else I have heard.

PS - Vide is very long so make sure you have time to watch it...and please for the love of god don't just go posting your crazy zelda theories without watching the video.

So it's okay to post our crazy theories afterwards?

If people want to watch the video and then rant thats fine, but I would think it makes them look pretty silly after the conclusion he reaches about the Zelda timeline sums up whats really going on.

I'm confused now, I may never play zelda again

heheh, Angry Gaming Nerds one weakness! ZELDA!

Yeah, really, the most important thing to keep in mind is these aren't the same Link and Zelda, they're incarnations. I'm guessing this is much like Dr. Who, though I've never seen that series and can't really confirm any of it.

I do actually have theories, but It'd take way too long to connect everything, and I'd need to play through Minish Cap and the oracles games, as I've never had a chance to touch those.

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods

I completely agree with his conclusion.

Let me guess: there is no timeline?

*watches*

Well whop-de-fucking-do, what d'ya know, I was right. It's nothing new, you know...

Anyway, this is coming from a once-but-never-again guy who used to argue this shit... The Nerd is right, and I agree with him in the end, but there are some false facts in this video you might care about, most importantly:

1. A Link to the Past was hardly properly translated by NoA, and while I commend his love for the old-school, the original Japanese title was actually Triforce of the Gods, so the name really isn't much to go on.
2. Ganondorf's phony names (Dragmire, Mandrag, Gannon, Ganondwarf, Ganondork, etc) aren't getting any more canon now that NoA has officially refuted them.

As for the "current" Zelda timeline, this is likely it;

Twilight Princess
/
OoT
\
The Wind Waker-Phantom Hourglass-(Four Swords Saga)

If anyone has any questions, I could answer them. Otherwise just take this as an indication of what the next Zelda games might be about.

But this guy is really not funny. He seems to be trying to be like Yahtzee and just failing.

I completely agree with the conclusions that Nintendo never intended for the series to actually have a real back story. Basically the most they have done is nail down a origin story, and allow the player to place the other games in any order they like following that game. Which does actually work, because the themes repeat verbatim, and Hyrule is governed by some bizarre utterly arbitrary scheme that ensures that link must accomplish multiple goals by which he gets to face Gannon yet again. The old systems seemingly shatter to make room for even more convoluted ones.

That said I do not buy into the philosophy that Nintendo is helpless due to its own incompetence. The moment they started to weave a series out of the game they should have hammered down a story. I also do not think its too late for them to do that either. They simply need to concede the obvious point that they have a convoluted story, and that they are going to implement a stronger story for the series. They haven't actually baked anything so why not go back to step one.

There just isn't an excuse now for the series to not have a story. I think it is high time that Nintendo delivered a compelling story with the experience. Really it is a blemish on the series. A decent story could only do wonders for the series. We could finally get more recurring characters, and we wouldn't be forced to repeat the exact same exploits as the previous games. Thanks to the lack of story the plot is even paper thin.

I find that unlikely considering he's been doing this since mid 2006.
