Can't say anything bad about the gameplay, though. Lots of good stuff going on, there. Whenever I hit a gaming drought, I plan to finish playthrough of MGS HD collection (you should get that, too) followed by a playthrough of MGS4.
You know, Metal Gear Solid is a bit of a sentimental favorite of mine for one reason. When I started seriously gaming (Nes), Metal Gear was there. It's the only series that I can think of that has taken one single story and built on it for twenty-five years. The Solid Snake we met in 1987 is the same Solid Snake we know, now. It just amazes me. Even when the story-telling is clunky, I still give the series respect. It's grown up with me.
Fun fact: MGS4 is the only canon Metal Gear game that hasn't had a re-release.
MG--MSX, Nes, PS2, PS3/360
MG2--MSX, PS2, PS3/360
MGS--VR Missions (PS2), Twin Snakes (Gamecube), MGS Collection (PS2), etc...
MGS 2--Substance (PS2), Xbox, HD Collection
MGS3--Subsistance (PS2), HD Collection, 3DS
Portable Ops--Portable Ops Plus (PSP)
Peace Walker--HD Collection (PS3/360)

He bought MGS4. He's on something a whole lot more powerful than mushrooms. |
I bet he doesn't make it passed the install screen.
Amazing game, one of the best ever made. Also my fav Metal Gear game and I love all of them. And as far as the cutscenes, they are long but not boring at all. They're amazing and one of the reason I love this game so much.
Good game. The first two chapters in particular are superb. You're obviously aware the cutscenes are rather long (especially at the end of chapter 3), but it all fits in with the game and the Metal Gear universe. Quite a bit of variety in the gameplay especially between how you approach each chapter. Oh, and the boss fights can be pretty nostalgic, but none of them compare to "The End" in 3.
If you're a MGS fan then the ending will be a tear jerker.
Other than the long cut scenes this game is incredibly good. Hope you enjoy!

The Super Bowl is the best show on earth. Write a thread about the subject.
