Forums - General - How come the ethnic slurs for white people are pathetic?

Cracker is an insult referencing white man's ownership and power in the slavery period?

And that's an insult? Huh... I view slavery as a terrible thing, but I would hardly be offended by someone calling me a man of "power."

Not really anything to do with that. But like, a Boss who is on your shit for every little detail. Someone who desires to exert power over another simply because it gets them off. And that's the problem. Most white people aren't crackas. It's just that most crackas are white.

Eh, I'm sure "white guilt" has something to do with it too, but (as this thread points out)  white people don't seem to take too much offense to it.  Maybe its also this whole nebulous "white people" thing.  Most honkeys don't consider themselves ethnically white, they identify with what ever European heritage they have.

Because white people are more creative than other races?

I wouldn't normally make a statement like that in a thread, but since this is about racism/insulting white people I'm gonna go ahead and say it.

And some people probably take cracker as a compliment. Doesn't it refer to how we were slave owners and we cracked whips on people? I bet some people in the south are proud of how their ancestors were "crackers".

Honkey is just stupid, I don't get how that's supposed to be insulting. And as you already said "redneck" and "hillbilly" are southerners...and "white trash" is poor white people living in trailer parks.

I just think the terms don't really apply to us enough for us to get hurt, because not all white people are crackas, etc. If if you're in a position of power, cracka is not likely to insult you, but something like control freak, or psycho probably will.

Also, there is kind of an insult that works for some white people. American.

I find curious in USA how whites, blacks and other ethnics groups are so separated and often called "races". How different groups have a totally different culture from each other...considering the fact that these groups are in contact if each other for centuries.
But I guess that my country is the exception, maybe. In Brazil the miscigenation is really high, and you can see in a common day elements that come from natives, blacks, europeans, turks, japaneses. Actually there are a lot more "pure blacks" in USA than in Brazil. Back in slavery, white men often impregnated dozens of black women. My country had a policy of "whitening" the population.

It is probably true that many recent immigrants to the US that are white might identify with a certain European origin. But in my case and many other white people's case our ancestors have been here so long that we have tons of different heritage from many European countries and even part of other ethnic groups. So I would say the situation on how whites define themselves ifs very different because since I am :Finnish, German, English, Irish, Spainish, Dutch and Mexican I can hardly define myself as having large rootsin one  of those countries. Many white Americans have similar backgrounds so I believe many of them still closely hold ties towards defing themselves as white.

If you're mature you really don't care what anyone calls you. Just saying.

Yea, I have German, English, Norwegian, and possibly a few others in my blood.  I like to consider myself as a Viking though.

America is more of a salad then a melting pot;  a lot of ingredients adding to the overall flavor but still remaining distinct and important.  White people would be the iceberg lettuce in this analogy....

America is an interesting place due to its geography and position in gloabl politics, and a lot of non-Americans (and Americans that don't really look past their front yards) don't realize just how different Americans are from region to region and state to state.  They speak differently, live differently, and beleive different things, yet all are identifiably American.  It really goes beyond ethnic groups, Americans are a very diverse bunch.  (Not speaking against the diversity of other countries, btw, just to get that out of the way.)

Me too because my family is so tall, unfortunantly my body is more built like a beefy Mexican. So I guess I luck out gaining strength over height. I always call my bro a f'ing Vicking bastard.
