Story wise. That couldn't really apply to the gameplay.

I agree with you on that, but it was the whole Laguna thing that really had me going "WTF". But the love story wasnt great either, maybe these guys just suck at telling that kind of story??

I'd be perfectly happy to have this discussion with you but RolStoppable is right there.
The Laguna parts were the better parts in terms of portraying the relationships between people, because they were narrow in scope and only ever tried to show Laguna as a parallel for Squall's romanticism.

Im not afraid, but your right about Laguna. I just didnt like him as a character, thought he was a bit dull and his friends too. But the love story was worse.Actually i thought the whole thing started going down hill about half way through the 2nd disc

I thought it never really took off, in terms of plot. It asked us to accept certain things that were so stupid it's embarrassing to think about.
But I wouldn't say that the people involved are really bad at this sort of story. Sakaguchi's been on hand for a few good, sweet romances. Cecil and Rosa was nice; Kain and Rosa was better if only because of how completely screwed up it was. I still really like Celes and Locke. Cyan's loss of his family was portrayed very well. Barret's love for Marlene was good, though a shitty translation really hurt that. I didn't think much of Zidane and Dagger, but it wasn't offensive. Tidus and Yuna - no comment, never got that far into FFX. 12 didn't have a love story, which was pretty all right.
Established relationships based on love and devotion are easier to write because we understand them better. Few people have similar experiences when it comes to the act of falling in love, and it's harder to communicate for all stories. There are tales of love in Lost Odyssey that are very good, but they don't make up the body of the work. It's very difficult, and very hit-or-miss, to write that sort of romance.

I always thought you liked that, my dreams are dashed!
On topic, I'm much more excited for this game. Than I was previously, when it first came out I remember people saying it was poor. But, everything seems intriguing! The way sakaguchi explains it sounds way more interesting, than the initial concept I heard on this board.
Maybe I"m just oblivious.
