I think it will die, with Sony model "CONSOLE EXPERIENCE ON PORTABLE" it won't succeed as big publishers won't waste their best ideas on a portable, whith the market getting tougher and tougher and scarce on new ideas.

If there's a market for it, big publishers will pursue that option. If the Vita could get something like PSP had with Monster Hunter, sales will skyrocket (in Japan at least if something similar to MH; they need a worldwide appeal).

Sony did do a few things right so far. Them making sure that every single retail game is available for download from the get go is something that should've been done with the PSP (especially the Go) once the PSN went into full bloom. They made sure they had a great line-up at launch, with something for everyone.

Which was exactly my point, the publishers have to create that market(we all know Sony alone can't, Sony isn't Nintendo), and it's too risky to bet a great idea on portable.

It's not too risky to bet anything right now so early in the life of the Vita. If anything, this is the time to take risks and try and do something completely different than normal, because people are going to be looking for that something different with the lack of appealing launch games (although the Vita does have a pretty good launch line-up).

are writers stuck at the start of 3DS life?
I believe it is selling well

I'll grab 25% of market share and sell 40 million units over the next five years. I'll make profits for Sony but that's probably the best you could tell about it.

The Vita needed 3 things to be successful: A competitive price, a good games lineup at launch and advertisement. Lots and lots of advertisement.

....

This is compounded by a lack of any sort of advertisment for the console outside of gaming websites and magazines. I hae yet to see a single advert for the Vita, and very little pushing from retailers (no midnight launches in any Game or Gamestation here in the UK, for example), could easily lead to the average consumer to believe this new console is simply another PSP with an extra analogue stick. A much greater marketing campaign will need to be launched in the UK in order for the Vita to be even slightly competitive at launch.

Is he a retard ? You don't start big advertisement for mainstream customer months before release. You want to start it shortly before launch to make the most out of it.

Excuse me, but the release is mere weeks away, not months, and Sony has made little to no effort to advertise it. Not even in shops over here (as I said, no midnight launch). And the 3DS was being advertised in 2010 in shops and on sites, several months before release. Couple this with the fact that the 3DS (and most other console launches, for that matter) had a large media push starting about 8 weeks before launch, and the lack of public knowledge only compounds the fact that there's a lack of advertisement for the console. Of course numbers of ads will increase, but it's still too late IMO. In future, please don't resort to such lowly, degrading statements against anyone. It's just poor. Especially if they wrote a thorough, detailed argument and opinion, then you retaliate with a simple sentence. It's neither polite nor clever. And please do not respond to this post. And don't respond to posts in the future without a detailed argument. It's merely polite.

At least NIS is enjoying the nice PSV sales for Disgaea 3, so it isn't doom and gloom for everyone.

Vita is also launching during tax return season in the US. For example I just did mine today and I will get the money deposited into my account on Feb. 21st. Lots of impulse buys around this time. Well, for me anyways.

Haha it's like we're the same person!
How do you know when you get your return??

Direct Deposit. I have never had to wait more than 2 weeks to get my federal return deposited. Now State, that's a different story.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

(One more thing: The PSPGo looked different to the PSP, perhaps moreso than the Vita, and had a radically different name, and did stuff differently. So it could be easy to conclude the same thing for the Vita for those not serious about gaming).

Except for the part PSP-Go was a terrible last minute decision and you could of gotten a cheaper PSP 1000,2000 or 3000 series which also allowed UMD games unlike the Go where you were forced to download from the PSN.

This is true. However, didn't Sony have high hopes for the Go, which then fell flat? I think so...and Vita is more expensive than the PSP, by quite a margin. It's easy enough for the casual consumer to make that mistake. The key to the success of the Vita will be to attract these casual consumer away from either Nintendo, Apple or any other electronics company. For this to occur, you need to push and push and push, moreso now than ever before. This is where, I feel, Sony will become unstuck.

How fortunate. It'd be cool for something like that to happen...
