Why not? After all, Sony did it to SEGA not too long ago. All's fair in love and videogame console wars lol.

Do you really think Sony did it.
|
This is Sony This is Sega

So pretty much yeah, they did it. Any questions?

So are you really saying that Sega's decisions had nothing to do with it at all? The add-ons for the Genesis, the Saturn being difficult for programming, etc. Or maybe the fact that PS1 was dev friendly compared to the Saturn? And Nintendo and their treatment of third parties? (making most migrate to Sony at the time).
The funny thing is how many exclusives Sega makes for Sony now days.

Well there's no doubt Sega's mistakes like the botched North American Saturn launch and ruining their brand with too many add-ons late in the Genesis' life contributed to their eventual downfall, but those are just little pieces of the big picture. After Sony launched the PS1, Sega went from being the #2 game hardware and software manufacturer in the world to effectively being marginalized in their own country in less than a generation and almost non-existent in the West in terms of hardware. Had Sony not entered the market when they did, Sega would have struggled along with the Saturn behind Nintendo's N64, then rebounded with the Dreamcast, a stellar system by anyone's standards in terms of design, features and software.
As it were, mere months after the Dreamcast launched, Sony dealt Sega the deathblow when they dropped the PS2 on them. Sega and the Dreamcast were dead a year before Nintendo and M$ even had a chance to launch their new consoles. So I still stand by my original statement that Sony caused Sega to exit the hardware industry.
And what's funny about your last statement is that as soon as Sega left the hardware industry, they immediately started putting out exclusives for Sony's rivals, starting first (ironically) with longtime rival Nintendo like Super Monkey Ball and F-Zero GX on the GC, and later games like Panzer Dragoon Orta and ToeJam and Earl III on the Xbox as well. It wasn't until more recently that they started doing more exclusives for Sony, which tells you how they felt about them at the time of their demise lol.
