Forums - Nintendo - Has the script of the original Final Fantasy VI held up by today's standards?

Today I was surfing through the Virtual Console (does anybody even do that anymore?) with 800 points just itching to be spent, and I stumbled upon Final Fantasy III (VI).

"Whoa!"  I said, "I can finally play this thing!"

But then I stopped. It was released in 1994, with a supposed epic storyline that will pull at my hearstrings. But will it still?

What I mean is, will the script hold up? From playing various old NES/SNES games I notice that the English localisations were occasionally just hilariously bad; or had small mistakes that really didn't hinder the original intent. I wouldn't mind if I weren't picky as hell. But I am. If there's a damn good storyline to be experienced, I would personally be taken out of the atmosphere a bit if I stumble over some mistakes or just read script that doesn't really sound smart. It wouldn't match with my expectations of the story.

So, this may be a silly question, but will I have this problem when I play the original version?

I know that the GBA version has more content and an update script, but honestly I'm too lazy to track it down. And I don't play my GBA anymore considering that it's almost destroyed from wear and tear.

If I don't end up getting FF6 then Super Metroid or A Link to the Past are the other choices.

Actually, it's still better than most games nowadays.

Don't hesitate. It's still amazing after all these years. In fact, it's so good that it caused morenoingrato to post something that was correct. That's a first!

Considering Final Fantasy IV's script still holds its own as one of the best video game stories ever, yo're in safe hands with the sixth iteration as well. The sterling cast of characters and brilliant plot-twist in the middle makes it a game every should play at least once.

Read my blog. it exists. No really, it does. I kid you not.

(Had to be done. I agree, though.)

LOL. I didn't think anyone would get the reference.

Well, sure is tempting.

story yes, I'd still say it's one of the best FF's if not the best story wise. the dialogue has issues like most final fantasy's imo. The GBA advance version is a much better direct translation. Some people have nostalgia for the FF6's original translation mistakes, which they affectionatly like.

The gameplay doesn't hold up. Compared to basically any FF after it and FFV before  it,  chrono trigger, it lacks significantly. I still like it though.

That said, if you've like any FF, the plot of this should definitely keep your butt glued down for the duration of the game.

That's three of the best games of all time you've got there. Get 'em all!

Best RPG I've ever played, if any game is worth 800/900 Nintendo points, it's FFVI
