Looking through that thread, it appears that we haven't jumped a huge amount in polygon count between last-gen games and current gen games. Leon had a 10,000 polygon count in Resident Evil:4, and Uncharted 3 has polygon counts of 30,000. That's only 3 times as much for games in a similar genre in a next-gen system. This will be 33 times as many polygons between currently and in said future title. That's a HUGH leap, and it has me to believe that we'll finally see character models that will actually look CG in nature, with fine details typically seen only in early 2000ish CG movies.
I wish I knew how many polygons the Samaritan tech demo had in it's character models, because this might be pretty close to that.
