Forums - Website Topics - VGC Needs to Follow Blackout or Put Up Banners in Place of Ads Today!

I actually wouldn't mind setting something up as I'm definitely against the bill, but I guess I'm not politically minded enough to be informed when these kind of things are happening so I just learned about the general blackout today and it caught me by surprise.

Combine that with the fact that a large number of our admins including the site owner don't live in the US and therefore probably don't follow the politics closely enough either (I'm sure Brett has heard of the bill but probably didn't know that there'd be a protest on this specific day) and Brett isn't on now so the only person with the power to make this kind of thing happen is absent and you have your reason why we don't have anything to support the cause officially on the site.

edit: also apparently Machina and Seece are huge parade rainers who like to burst people's bubbles and defficate all over their political dreams.  <3

I'm talking more about the fairly major sites (like MS Paint Adventures, which gets well over a million visitors a day) initiating a blackout and directing people to petitions. Or Dinosaur Comics, that's a good example. Taking the people who like your work and directing them so that hundreds of thousands of voices are slamming up against Congress all at once? There's nothing bad about that.

I hate a bandwagon, that's what's bad about it!

All I'm saying is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with people banding together because they all agree on something. When it's with a specific goal in mind, so much the better.

Nothing wrong with it at all, other than it being an absolutely futile effort. When English Wikipedia is down (sorta) and reddit is down and Google has a big thing on its front page, does yourgamercards.net going down for the day really do anything to raise awareness? People know already. Just slap a black ribbon on your goddamn website and be done with it like we did back in the '90s!

I have to admit I'm kind of bummed out by this level of pessimism, here. I'll disagree: better everyone be in on it than only a few.

I tried to apply for a job today and when I clicked "Click here to apply" I got redirected to a "SOPA BLACKOUT WE'RE DOING OUR PART" kind of site. I was quite annoyed...

Google and Wikipedia are on the case. No need for every single company I've "liked" on facebook to post a comment linking to why their against SOPA. Oh wait they're already doing that.
