| Legend11 said: It seems rather odd that you count a pack-in game (Wii Sports) against standalone games that cost $40-50 or more. I've also noticed that pack-in games for other consoles are not counted (the 360's ones in particular). It seems all this does is artifically inflate the Wii's numbers and position on the charts. Has this been addressed before? |
If you look at historic game sales pack in games are usually counted as a game sale ...
The unfortunate thing with the XBox 360 is that there are options for pack-in games so it is (I assume) difficult to associate the "sale" of a particular game with a sale of a console.
What is the 360 game?

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
About every 360 sold has a title in it some have 2.
So wouldnb't that knock up the numbers dramitically?
Hexic comes with every premium 360 :p
Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.
| Legend11 said: ioi, I don't understand what you mean, are you saying that xbox 360 pack-in games are counted in the weekly totals? If so how does the site know what percentage of 360s being sold has which particular pack-in game? For example Call of Duty 3 is a pack-in game with some of the newer 360s, are those numbers being added to the numbers that npd has (they aren't counting pack-in games in their numbers hence why Wii Sports isn't counted in their numbers). It just seems odd that a game that is included with a console and doesn't bring in any additional revenue is counted against games that cost $40,$50,$60 and above. If the Wii had come with 10 different pack-in games would the site claim that the wii's total software sales to date in the U.S. have surpassed the total software sales to date of the Xbox 360? |
Ok, ioi. I agree with them on this.
If you wanna count a free game, as a sale, you should count every game in Wii sports individually, because it's 5 games, in 1! So you should actually count each game sepratly. So that means the Wii has already sold over 10million games!
Basically, unless you can buy the game in a box, I dont think it should be counted on VGcharts.

Not sure what the price of a game has to do with it being counted. Games can range in price when they are new from $5 (Pac-man VS) up to $100+ (Collectors editions of some games and wheel of fortune back in the day). The buyer now has the physical media and it just seems logical to count it as a sale.
I originally didn't think it should be counted also. But it really does make sense. It's still in that many households. And other pack in games have been included. Besides, the price is irrelevant.
I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.
Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.
Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!
Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.
Wii sports should count. Otherwise, it's like saying that Super Mario Brothers sales shouldn't count since millions of copies of that game came with the NES. While it's not an option to get a Wii w/o Wii Sports today, I imagine the pack in will eventually change or be removed in the future. (But since it costs next to nothing to make a DVD, maybe Nintendo will always include it.)
If this site decided to not count Wii Sports, then it also shouldn't count the sales of titles given away for free when a store offers a free game when purchasing a 360 (which happened a lot over the holidays and still happens from time to time). Good luck trying to keep track of that.
Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.
