Forums - Nintendo - Should There Be A Female Link or Maybe a Game Starring Zelda?

No, no, No!!! Exactly the same way I don't want to see a male Samus,
a male Lara Croft (no not Drake, like Larry Croft)
A female Sherlock Holmes (Yes Shirley Holmes, that was a direct dig at you)
A female/black Doctor who
A white Othello
A female James Bond
A female (Janette) Bourne

why? Because it's pissing on an originally agreed set of principals, it's an affront to what has already been established, this is one path of PC equality I'll be happy to live without.

The difference though is that all of those are singular characters, but Link is not the same person everytime, he's more of an archetype.  And since he isn't going around Hyrule slinging his dick around or screwing anything that moves I don't think changing the character to a female would really change much of anything.  Not like he's a burly muscleman anyway, half the time I see a person dressed up as Link it's a woman.  Only reason I can think that they shouldn't make a game with Link as a woman is because it wouldn't change anything and would therefore just be an attempt to look controversial, but I disagree with the idea that it pisses on Link's set of principles.

I laughed when he said that it's important for "chicks" to be able to play as female characters.

No, because it would add nothing to the story or gameplay, and therefore would be nothing except an attention grab. I think Nintendo is above attention grabs, especially where Zelda is concerned.

pretty much this.

Link is never the same person in every game. He is a reincarnation of the Hylia's chosen hero. Games can come 100s of years apart of eachother story wise. Also it has never been stated that Hylia's chosen hero HAS to be a man or that he will always be reincarnated into a men everytime. Im up for female link as long as it isnt a ''main home console game'' otherwise it it would create to much anger with fans, fans tends to get rly angry when ppl change something about theyr beloved franchises (see Metroid: other M or the next devil may cry for example). A handheld game would be a nice fit, but now 3ds games are looking alot more like home console games, theyr is no more 2d zeldas. But i could imagine a female link in games like Minish Cap or Phantom Hourglass.

OR they SHOULD give us the option to CHOOSE between making a female Link or a male Link at the start of the game, abit like they did with Pokémon. That way they would be no reasons for fans to complain, if you hate it then just make your link a male, if you are the kind of person who likes playing females in video games you create yourself a female link(theyr is nothing wrong or weird with that, theyr is so many male characted in gaming, playing a female can feel fresh for some). A other reason why I think this would be a good thing is that Nintendo keeps saying that Link doesnt talk because he is supposed to be a extension of yourself and that they want the player to feel like they ARE link and not just playing him. Then for the same reason we have the option to name our link, it is only logical that nintendo should let us choose between a male or female link, theyr is ALOT of female fans of Zelda, and i'm sure alot of them would feel alot more like they ARE link and not just playing him if he was a girl.

And again, we should get the option to CHOOSE, I dont want Nintendo to FORCE us a female link. Those who hate the idea of a female link should be able to just check the option ''male'' when you create your save file and move on and forget that the possibility of a female link even exists.

For Zelda as a playable character, maybe im up for her being playable for a quest somewhere into a game, but nothing more. She should be playable for like15 or 20min once or twice into the game just for a breeze of fresh air but a entire game with her playable sounds terrible IMO and she should never have nowhere near as much gametime as link.

No, absolutely no.

1) Zelda is not really a good characters to build a game around. Link is so much more charsimatic and versatile.

2) Link is an incredibly charismatic character and the true symbole of the Zelda serie. Allowing to play a female player would just kill Link, the symbol of the serie.

So are you saying that a female Link cant be charismatic? What characteristic that male Link have that a female couldnt? His pretty blue eyes? His cute little nose? His pretty long hair? His huge manly mucscular figure a la Gears of wars? His pretty baby face? His stylish blue earings? or his huge deep manly voice?

The only thing that would change would be... add boobs (small boobs, i wouldnt see female link with a huge cleavage lol)... longer hair... slightly change the sound of her grunts... and mayyybe make her a little shorter. And here you go, you have a female Link, pretty much the same as a male, you dont even have to change his face, facial expressions, movesets, animation or clothes.

A female Link would not be Link. That's all.

Link is the face of a serie, if you dilute this it kills the symbol. And let's be real 99% of people would not want of this female Link, female player included. Link is a male, he is the incarnation of the courageous knight. The female is Zelda.

That would be similar to allow players to play a female Mario. Epic failure.

I can guarantee you that if they added the option to choose to create a male link or female link, like they did with Pokémon, theyr would be alot of ppl that will want to create a female... I personaly would pick a female Link for my second time playing a game (Master quest/hero mode...)

Link is pretty much a girly boy... A female Link would differ only in longer hair, voice and boobs. She would pretty much be the exact same character, with same animation, personality... She would have the exact same interaction with other characters and she would be just as courageous. Link is far from the huge male protagonist with huge muscle, so a tomboy female Link wouldnt change anything IMO.

And the difference between mario and Link, is that mario is always the same character... While theyr is a new link in every games... In each games theyr is a new hero that gets reincarnated I see no reasons why he couldnt be reincarnated into a girl if we wanted to.

All im saying is that we should be able to CHOOSE, you can always pick a male link and forget that the option of a female link even exists. If you hate female link, fine pick male, the option of choosing wont affect you.

It would just ruin Link as a character. And that's enough to ban it. Nintendo will never have such a disastrous idea. Pokemon is irrelevant, you play a random kid exploring the world.

It would not ruin Link as a character, that is a silly thing to say.

On the one hand I want to go "THere's no real need to change it," but on the same note that can easily sprout from reasoning that boils down to "Male protagonists are the default mode so it's justified", when that's not really the case.

However, Link himself is male, as an icon, and changing his gender would also change up the iconography, so I can see why they would not do that.
