Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD Dec: X360 #1, 1.7m, 900k - 1m Wii, PS3

I believe it was confirmed in June's NPD article that at least the 360's from the "Back To School" giveaway were included with NPD's numbers.  Though, I don't think those have any effect on Dec, as the sale was over.

Maybe someone who was monitoring this closer than me would know, but based on the monthly numbers, the Back To School promos didn't seem to have a massive effect on the numbers for Aug/Sept, seeing as how sales didn't spike unusually high until November and that was almost entirely due to Black Friday sales.

I'm pretty sure the Back To School promo wasn't the only way to get a free Xbox though.

But even if they were free, technically someone paid for it even if it was MS. So, unless a cargo ship full of consoles goes to the bottom of the ocean or never reaches consumer hands, eventually any unit shipped = a unit sold.

Well, it probably helped them not be down as much as they would have been in August, as well as remain basically flat in Sept (GeOW3 helped a lot, too).  Still, it was probably only a couple of tens of thousands a month, so nothing that would have tipped the scales really.

Honestly, these past few days just seem so surreal. December sales lower then November sales, and shortages have nothing to do with it. Just that statement alone seems... not grounded in reality. Could anyone have predicted this?

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Wtf, 1.2m overtracked? That's not just any small number like 200-300k, out by 40%..

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Looks like low sales across the board and the 360 barely improved over November. That's quite unusual.

Its probably because of the mass appeal of the current gen is gone.

My oppinion...

Lets not forget 2011 was the best year so far for PS3, XboX360 and their software. So this was actually the year where their mass appeal was at the highest...

What's happening is that since a few years retailers have been trying to start the holydays season early and with the black friday incentives a lot of customers are purchasing their gifts earlier...

Well Xbox might sell 85M when its said and done but this gen is pretty much over... We need new Ips and we are just getting sequels and sequels with a new gen we will get fresh games and ideas and new genres... you know this gen appeal has died, people want more Cod and Casual shit, nothing more.

Yeah obviously this gen is over.

HD consoles just sold the most software and hardware since the start of the gen so obviously this is a sign that they are dead.

/sarcasm off

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I'm just wondering if Brett has commented any where on the forums about all of this. I haven't been back too much since this all broke and I know there are like 10 different threads that somehow tie into the topic.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

And don't forget, next gen is already doomed, as tablets and smartphones will stop people from gaming on consoles.  You know, like it did near the end of this gen.

@ toadslayer

I've been in a few of the threads, but I haven't seen him comment in any of them.

Pacher was actually closer overall on the estimates than vgc and almost got the gap between 360 and ps3 spot on. When a guy who gets slated for constantly getting guesses wrong makes better estimates than you then theres something wrong.

No, but I opened a thread were I explained VGC needed bigger and more representative samples and it got closed with no explanation... so I don't think they are very comfortable with this situation.

sry but this guy still failed a lot i mean for example he said ps3 1.7m and it is like 900k. this guy got rich doing these analysis so for me this guy failing is much worse and i have no clue why he has something to say in the industry...
