The fact that SONY is making games like Uncharted for VITA shows that they have learned nothing from PSP in regards to handheld market.

Add to fact Uncharted barely appeals to that PS3 fanbase... what are they thinking.

Youre absolutely right, shame on sony for providing gamers with a variety of software that will cater to a larger audience by hopefully bringing in gamers who wouldnt necessarily consider themselves portable gamers.  Its as if every game they are developing are along the lines of uncharted vita, when this is really one of a handful of games that are going to provide a console like experience, while there are several titles that will be offering more bite-sized gaming that portable gamers are used to.  Not every ps vita owner is purchasing the system for UGA, and why does everyone believe that there are portable gaming standards?  In order to capture a larger portion of the market, it is necessary to provide experiences that cant be found anywhere else, especially when nintendo pretty much owns dedicated portable gaming when it comes to competent, ableit safe software offerings.  The only way Sony can hope to gain a proper foothold in the handheld market is to differentiate itself with its software, otherwise they're dead in the water.

Your typing, not thinking: Games like Uncharted have no business on handheld unless they redesigned to fit handheld styled gaming. look at Games like Dissdia, God of War, 3rd Birthday, Crisis Core, MGS, the 1st thing out of everybody mouth is they should have been put on console because those are console styled game. As great as those are on PSP.. ppl would rather play them on a console. Handheld gaming is not about cinematic story driven shit.. its about turning the game on and off when choose, short bust gameplay... there are different stands about game design on consoles vs handhelds and you think there isnt.. then I have nothing to say to you because this discussion will have to Xxtend waay pass where it started but I cant .. preparing for work.

Also, you are automatically assuming that everyone is simply in agreeance with you, when I know that I am not the only one excited at the prospect of console like experiences on a handheld.  Not everyone who purchases portables does so with the intent of only using it during travels where short gaming sessions are a necessity, when in actuality there is a rather large portion that love to chill out on their couch with their favorite handheld (me) and wouldn't mind having games such as uncharted for these moments.  Once again, Sony isn't focusing on console like games only, there is a wide range of software that will be available at launch that will appeal to a broader audience, who can fault them for this?

Everybody can! considering that SONY already tried the "Console handheld games" and it didnt work. You have it backwards. Gamers that want Console xxperiences on handheld are the Minority. SONY should have PS VITA xxclusive teams doing 2 things: creating unique original IP's( or modifying xxisting ones) that specifically take advantage of VITA's features - This serves 2 purpose: 1. using quality software to demonstrate to VITA capabilities to developers and Consumers( 3DS 1st problem was it demonstrate to either the point of 3DS vs a DS) and create self image for Vita( one of PSP's problems was an Identity crisis and developers saw it as port machine) and to create software that appeals to a wide range of gamers - Uncharted and God of War are not those games( or anything like them for that matter). SONY so far is making the same mistakes it did with PSP. PS VITA needs to get big quickly because Nintendo 3DS being able to games that DS couldn't do VITA has lost the edge in that department..( PSP's only life support). It already lost MGS,,MH, and RE to VITA and because that edge has been lost there is no reason for 3rd party developers to continue to support VITA if it falls to far behind.

You clearly dont understand what Im trying to explain to you, so I am done with this conversation.  We will agree to disagree.

Why not just give back some money to the consumer with a price drop?

Sony is not just going to go away quietly into the night.

Well, despite the poem, his father still died quietly in the night in the end.

Anyway, if Sony fails with this ad campaign, then it could be it for them in the handheld market within 2-3 years. They essentially gave up on PSP 4 years ago (except in Japan - but PSP had much more strength in Japan than it looks like Vita will have).

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

The fact that I play most of my smartphone gaming at home, relaxed on the couch and prefer to play RPGs proves wrong this idea that handheld gaming is meant to be "bite-sized".

I want my Gravity Rush, my Uncharted, my JRPGs, etc... I want my small games too, don't get me wrong, but to think that Sony is making a mistake because they are launching with a game like Uncharted is ridiculous.

So what would you suggest they do, just launch with no care for those gamers at all? Don't make games like that and instead just make your Lumines, Little Deviants, Escape Plan, BlazBlue, UMvC3, Wipeout plus all the stuff already on PSN? Why complain if they are already coming out of the gate catering to all sides?

Doesn't seem all too bright to me.

I definitely understand your saying. I just dont think its a path they should take. Will games like Uncharted in bring gamers who aren't handheld ppl? No.. as they would rather play those games on console.  "In order to capture a larger portion of the market, it is necessary to provide experiences that cant be found anywhere else" - you right now why is Uncharted and games like that Uncharted that game? you finds those all over PS360 .. where those gamers would rather play them. We have the same goal.. just the path to get there is different.

your just stereotyping - RPGS can be tailored to be handheld appropriate, you know that. What I am taking about is taking games like Uncharted and just slapping them on handheld. Look at Mario 3D( console styled Mario) its 3D Mario Tailored for a handheld xxperience.

I am getting really tired of this that Sony makes only handheld games that should be played with home console. How Nintendo always gets free pass with this argument? Especially during this gen. Most of 3DS games would play just fine on home console (Mario Kart 7, Zelda: OT, 3D Land). Heck one of the most waited releases for 3DS is new Resident Evil! Really people. It's just that Nintendo makes games that appeal masses regardless of their platform. It has very little to do with the fact that they are handheld games. New Mario game sells well regardless of its release platform. Of course something like Uncharted is maybe suited better for home consoles but it has also audience within handheld market so why not make it? Something like FIFA and CoD have universal appeal that would work just fine on handheld. Sony has also games in pipeline that make use of handheld controls like LBP.

I'll prob regret getting into this quote battle but here it goes.

I think theres one problem with your argument, and that is that Uncharted:GA is probably the only launch games form Sony you can accuse of being a console like experience - and a deeper look at the line up shows Wipeout, Little Deviants, Unit 13, Hot Shots Golf, Super Stardust etc. So clearly arn't dedicating a disproportionate amount of resources to these type of games. Further, a quick look at PSP game sales shows GOD:Chains of Olympus at 3m+, the GTA Stores games over 2m, Dissidia 2m+... clearly these games have an audience. No, it's not huge, but there are publishers who'd kill to sell 2m copies of a game - considering Sony arn't going overboard on these console-on-handheld things I'd argue the complete opposite to you, that Sony infact have a small market here that needs more games catering to it - as it could easily be expanded if handled correctly.

Also, the DS launched with an N64 port, the 3DS had two N64 ports before a Mario game... Nintendo do this too and it works fine for them. Yeah, Sony totally need to discover their Nintendogs and Brain Training and Mario Kart if they want Vita to be a huge, massive success, but that doesn't whatsoever involve them not making the odd Uncharted, Resistance or Killzone on the thing.

over $500 million ? doubt it.

Think about the future though.. how will developers handle VITA as handle gaming device with its identity..or just another system where they will dump newest console release on?
