Man that's a bigger drop then I was expecting for the 360, I thought it would be closer to the PS3. Anyways here is where the PS3 outsells the 360 every week until Halo 4 comes out (or Kinect Star Wars if it comes out sooner)
Skyrim should be at about 200-250k this week on the 360.
Wow, this year has been quite interesting.
The PS3 has proved to be the most consistent seller over the course of the year. The price cut was probably a bad business decision, though. It likely would've sold similar numbers without it, as the boost was negligible. Interesting, though, how the relentless storm of exclusive titles didn't cause a comparable boost in console (or software) sales. Still, great year for it.
The almighty Wii has fallen to 3rd place even with a price cut, likely due to the Wii U introduction, Kinect and the disappearance of notable software. Is it really just a Zelda and Just Dance 3 year??? Still, it didn't sell horribly, just compared to previous years.
The 360 shuffled it's feet most of the year but came ROARING back during the holidays for it's best year ever and almost the top selling console WW even. Kinect didn't seem to be the huge seller it was at launch, but likely contributed much to the 360's holiday boost (though 2nd year software was more iterative than expected). All of this despite being the console that is longest in the tooth this gen and one without a true price cut since 2008. 2008!!!
Though I'd imagine annual console sales are down (due to the Wii drop), Sony and especially Microsoft (profits!) should feel good about the life of their current consoles for the foreseeable future. 2012, with the introduction of the Wii U and Kinect finally getting true 2nd generation games, should be an interesting year as well for sales. The BIG question, though, is will 2012 be the year where everyone's sales start to recede greatly. The Wii is there already and got there in a big way fast. MS still has a 360 price cut in them that just has to hit this year (I'm shocked they've gone this long and sold more) and, as I mentioned, Kinect's appeal may grow with bigger titles coming soon. Considering all of the shots taken in 2011, I'm not sure what Sony could do to slow the receding of sales, but we'll see. 2011 may indeed have been the peak year for the HD consoles.
As for the handhelds ... 3DS shockingly rebounded better than I thought and the PSVita sold worse than I imagined it would in Japan. Who knows what the future holds for these things ...

Wii fell like a rock, and the PS3 is pretty close to the 3DS,being on 2nd place.
360 still making a killing in the US.
Waiting for the Skyrim numbers!
What I learned from reading this thread:
Saying that 3DS vs. Vita sales numbers causes you to smile causes contreversy.
Saying that you hope the 360 and PS3 "rape" the Wii in 2012 is perfectly ok though.
Interesting numbers all around. I have a feeling that Europe might be the Vita's saving grace... it'll be fun to watch and find out.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I did expect them to be closer to be fair, didn't expect a 600k drop in Americas for 360 ..... |
That's the problem with big seasonal spikes - both the incline and the decline tend to be big. Still well played by MS. Bundles and promotions plus good avertising delivered for them very well. I guess the PS3 will be third for a while yet.
Poor Vita looks pretty lonesome with just one region's sales. Once it launches everywhere and starts stabilizing it'll be easier to see how it's really doing.
For the moment though its definately going to be the "doomed" magnet.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
Expected PS3 over 360 in the last week of the year... the US drop is always bigger than Europe/Others... so the 360 drop too.

Check Skyrim's game page. Both USA and Europe numbers are in! |
The drops are in line with my expectations.Crazy how the 360 version almost managed 5M in just 8 weeks! The PS3 version isn't doing too shabby either with around 2.85M in the bag.
I don't really see ms cutting the price on the 360 this year. They're making a billion a year in profits, raping the ps3 in the Americas and UK, and only slightly behind in Europe. I don't think they're worried about Japan and the emerging markets as anti-americanism {not referring to Japan here - talking MEAA} isn't something marketing or pricecuts is going to overcome anyways.
The only way I see a price cut is if sales start dropping significantly yoy or if they announce the nextbox.
