Mexico
1. Microsoft xbox360 3+ million
2. Nintendo Wii >1.5 million
3. Sony PS3 <1 million

PS3 is in solid position. Wii has been doing incredible lately but 360 still holds a notable lead.
360 numbers should be around 3 or slightly more above million mark.
Mexico is Microsoft's 5th largest market (if that helps with the # calc)
Kinect has been advertised there for 'Los Reyes Magos' [Three Wise Men day] holiday this upcoming Friday (jan 6) so this week is a strong holiday week there since presents are giving on Friday rather than on Christmas. Dance Central 2 has seen noticeable commercials.

This is since 2007, so you can do a better prediction of current numbers

Mexico LTD till end of Dec. 07: PS2: 860.000 [Launch: 2004] 360: 550.000 [Launch: Feb. 06] [23.913 units/month] PSP: 380.000 NDS: 330.000 WII: 220.000 [Launch: Nov. 06] [15.714 units/month] PS3: 60.000 [Launch: Aug. 07] [12.000 units/month]

I wonder why the 360 is so much more popular than the other consoles...even PS2 seems to have not done all that great in Mexico.

Also if Mexico is the 360's 5th largest market, what is 4th?

As far as I can tell it goes like this.

1. USA (< 33 M)

2. UK (7.5 M)

3. Canada (I'm assuming it must be close to 4 million?) This one is a complete assumption though.

4. ??? (< 3 M)

5. Mexico (3 M or more)

6. France (2.8 M)

7. Germany (2.5 M)

8. Spain? If I remember right it was close to 2 million or so

9. Italy (1.6 M)

10. Japan (1.5 M)

Of course Brazil could be somewhere in that list as well.

Well Mexico accounts for more than 50% of the Latin American video game market.  So given that I would assume 360 numbers should be well below Japans.

Mexico being the 5th largest market was stated by Microsoft a few years back, so a possible shift in position in certainly probable.

As to why Microsft leads in Mexico has to do with marketing and presence.  Sony/PS3 are also seen as a reliable brand but not much in terms of video game popularity contributed to its initial high price. The biggest factor has to do with Sony and Nintendo lacking the marketing presence.

Microsoft has pushed marketing in Mexico. Most holiday commercials were promoting the 360, as well as kinect, and a 360 and Fifa bundle.  These also ran during top rated telenovela commercial breaks. A range of stores had promotions aired.  Without a doubt, 360 enjoyed an outstanding holiday season in Mexico.

Like Danny said here in Mexico is 360>>Wii>>>>PS3 and for handhelds is PSP>DS>>>>>3DS

it seems like the Wii is about to lose multiple countries, that's just unheard of in any generation.

I take it you mean 360's numbers are well below Japan in other countries in Laitn America besides Mexico?

Anyways thanks for the insight. I wonder why Sony and Nintendo don't seem to be trying as hard in Mexico? (much like I wonder why MS doesn't try harder in many european countries)

Sony is seem as a luxury item because is the most expensive and you cant pirate its games and Nintendo doesnt have any official present in Mexico nor Latin america

Brazil at November 2010:

PS2 - 5 Million
PS3 - 750K
360 - 300K
Wii - 230K
PSP - 200K
NDS - 200K

PS3 launched 1 years ago in Brazil, and X360 in 2006.

In East-Europe and Turkey are very strong Sony's console.. Nintendo's a little bit. Microsoft very little..

What about the 4th generation where the Genesis was in the lead globally until the Saturn came out giving Nintendo 2 additional years to support the SNES?

Japan is Wii territory, the PS3 outsold the Wii for the first time, and i expect sales to decline. Also don't forget the Wii hasn't had a pricecut in Japan since 2009, so it really is due one soon.

For me USA will be the biggest battle as the Wii still has a bit of juice in it, but the 360 is really on fire!
