On why the game uses 2D sprites for Pokemon… “One of the reasons for sticking with the 2D Pokemon images is, with the 2D, it really depends on who draws it. There’s a lot of personality that’s drawn from the 2D images, whereas with 3D, it’s the same model used for everything, so the personality doesn’t really come out. One of the reasons we’ve stuck with 2D is to get a more individual feel with it.” In seriousness I expect the games continue the BLack and White direction. With more pokemon and seeing only new pokemon at first. With more focus on online. I expect it to be in sprites with more presentation. |
Yeah well, before they've had technically limited machines to work with, making it impossible to pull off 3D battles (well, maybe they could've done it on the DS, but it wouldn't have looked so hot, lol). Now they have the 3Ds to work with. The name of the system alone should be enough to convince them to at least give it a try. Besides, that last sentence that you quoted said that personality argument was only ONE of the reasons. I see no reason why they couldn't do it now. It's not like it would make the game worse. Quite the opposite, in fact. In all honesty, the whole 'oh, but it won't look as nice if we do it in 3D' argument you mentioned seems like a load of crap, pardon my French. It doesn't even add up, I mean, when 3D images are used they'd look more lively and individual than the static 2D sprites they've been using up till now. Besides, 3D models are created by humans, same as sprites, so there's absolutely no way, no way at all, they'd have to look less individual than sprites. That's just like saying Toy Story is generic and has no personality, while, say, Tom & Jerry is not, because they're 2D hand-drawn catoons. It's nonsense.
