Forums - Sony - PSVita forces firmware updates, spies on you

If the author of this "article" uses an Apple iDevice, Android, Google Chrome, Windows, Mac OSX, or anything that connects to the internet, he is a hypocrite. If he worries about people spying on him, he shouldn't be using the Internet in the first place. Sure I hate it too, but fact is everyone from advertisers to your ISP to the people who made your browser and OS can take a peek at your stuff. The ones to worry about are ones that sell your info or use it in a malicious manner. Or even keep it for an extended period of time which can point out to a more malicious intent. There is no proof that Sony is keeping this stuff on record permanently and there certainly is no proof that Sony is selling it.

At least let a console settle down before trying to hack it. It's like people don't want to bother paying for their games anymore.

They try to rob the "Big evil cooperation" and then bitch and moan when the co operation try to protect their investments...

I am pretty sure that the available "hacks" do not allow PSVita games to be pirated. They allow homebrew to be loaded on the device.

Also I am glad you are alright with your information possibly being relayed to these poor poor helpless multibillion dollar corporations.

Let's be honest, if the hackers keep going at it, it's inevitable.

I'm not saying the co operations aren't rich but let's not pretend these hackers are heroic and selfless.

Let us also pretend that these people are all lumped together and proclaim them all as being bad people.

Let us also pretend that the reasoning for the potential spying is for "protecting the Vita" and not to relay info to Sony to give them more insight on their costumers so they can use the info in their marketing strategy.

Like you said, let's be honest.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

The only people that are worried about the forced updates are hackers, pirates or something along those lines. As for the spying it's more the paranoid people that are having an issue since in reality every company does stuff like it that doesn't make it right though but as long as it's limited to piracy and hack prevention and marketing I don't mind. Atleast not anymore then everyone else, I'm not about to stop using the net and watching tv anymore then this should prevent me for playing vita nor should it for anyone else.

No denying I don't approve of folks spying on my activities but with that said, I'm aiming an eye at the hackers for pushing their hands or at least justifying the decision.

Neither side is blameless and always pretending that the hackers are faultless and the big corps are teH evilz doesn't help matters.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Glad I'm not the only one who sees the irony.
