I think Sony will try and weather the storm next year, and perhaps price cut (only $50) in the holiday season along with some sort of system seller)

If they're already losing on Vita, and the PS3 price cut put the PS3 back into the red, and overall they're making heavy losses, can they really price cut the Vita?

See seece, you are sensible in business, but sometimes Sony isn't..... so you most likely know they won't weather the storm. Plus investors yelling at you never helps either.

Ha, well I didn't want to say it for fear of being shouted at myself, but yeah, massive losses never seems to have stopped Sony price cutting before, I just think one day they're going to come unstuck doing so, being downgraded by Fitch surely means they have to start being a bit more sensible.

I don't think it matters if the Vita sells like cack in its first year tbh (most systems do). Next holiday it really needs to up its game though. Price cut won't do magic without SW. they need to get TT on GTA Vita and a MH of their own in Japan

TT? o.o

Take Two, the parent company of Rockstar.

sorry it wasnt the point i was making. I think people can read far too much into these numbers. 500k for any other game would be considered a great success. Maybe its popularity is waining a little, which isnt suprising considering how long the franchise has been running. regardless of how the games are released etc. Thats a great figure. Just trying to see the positive in a generally negative week for Sony ( im usually not one to stick up for Sony at all)

Also id imagine the same core gamers that like final fantasy like monster hunter etc, and had to make a choice considering the recession.

While I agree that the Vita's sales are quite a disappointment, hopefully Sony can now focus more on profitability than simply grabbing as much marketshare as possible. They're certainly not going to beat the 3DS, so maybe they can maintain the current price point for at least the next year and try to push software. They might as well try to be in the black now.

Actually that's a good second week for FFXIII-2.

Yeah, a quick glance at how FF games sell in Japan, I noticed the following trend:

1st week ~1.5m

2nd week ~200k

3rd week ~100k

then sales in the teens until it hits the bargain bins

That means XIII-2 should sell at 50k next week before it tanks.

FFXIII did 170k in its second week (that's a 87% drop). So I think a 77% drop isn't too shabby. We'll see how week 3 goes but so far it's showing better legs (percentage-wise) than FFXIII.

let me tell you something about %s.  *psst psst* they are used as a resort to make sales seem greater than they are without directly revealing any quantifiable values. It's analysis 101.

In other words, don't try that spin, not on me at least.  xD

I'm just saying that there is a reason behind the better than usual drop for a FF game and it's probably because of word of mouth.

word of mouth could very well boost sales, but the very obvious reason as to why this game has a smaller drop %wise then other final fantasies you listed is because its first week was so small. It is much easier for a game with a smaller first week to have a smaller percentage drop then a game with a huge first week. Compare these sales with other final fantasies with a first week of under 1mil and you will see the drop is much bigger then most of them. Another example, Halo 3 had a bigger drop percentage wise then Halo ODST despite ODST getting slammed by critics and users alike simply because ODST had a much smaller first week than Halo 3.

Ok, shocking sales figures!

Im really suprised at the VITA numbers. Considering that while we say its the second week sales, technically its still really the first week, considering last week only contained 2 days. and it only manages this number. Im hoping their is some unforeseen circumstance that we havent heard yet. If it were any other week in the year i wouldnt be concerned, but this week, the holiday sales boost week, hmm. I personally want all consoles to sell well, it means better choice for us gamers, so to see this flop so much is hard to watch. Hopefully it will pick up, it looks like a serious peice of kit in my opinion.

Really? Most systems in Japan launch and have their "first week" as 2 days. (I think the PSP only had 1 day for it's first week.) For comparison, the 3DS had second week sales of 208k and that was in the first week of March, not during the holidays.

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

You are correct about the PSP and first week information. By the way, can you tell me 3DS's third week?

This thread lol Wow!

3DS Friend Code:   4596-9822-6909

I think it was a completely bone head move to not include backwards compatibility. If I have to pay to play a PSP game I already own than it is pointless.
