Forums - Sony - PS3 advertising still HORRIBLE

Reasonable said:
I think the problem with Sony advertising is it is inconsistent. Sometimes it's great, sometimes its WTF. Today, for best results, consistency of message is best unless you are supporting an evolving message (somewhat like MS has been).

Take Apple and Nintendo for example, really good, clear absolutely consistent messaging that constantly re-enforces the brand and the core messages for the brand.

Sony advertising I find is like some of its franchises this gen, such as Killzone and Resistance: it keeps changing trying to find the optimal place to be but never seems to do so or stay steady.

MS has also been variable but nonetheless more consistent than Sony, particularly more recently.

Consider how Sony started this gen basically with the message MS has been pushing more recently - entertainment hub and gaming device. At the time it was an early adopter message, but instead of sticking with it Sony switched to pushing a gaming centric message as sales of PS3 disappointed and sales of 360 grew, basically switching tack to try and match MS's much simpler - it's HD gaming - message. More recently Sony has swung back to the original message with "it only does everything" but I think they've never really presented that message well. MS meanwhile have simply allowed their message to evolve from gaming to entertainment hub in line with the market.

THIS. BTW, I think KB at his best (for example the ad "back from future" about Move) is great, but like anybody else, he does good, bad and so and so things.

This late in the lifecycle of consoles, why do people think that there is somehow an ad campaign that will make a big difference in anything?  By now, is there anyone who doesn't know what the different consoles are and what games they have?  Is somehow saying Uncharted 3 is exclusive for the PS3 going to make that much difference in sales of either the console or the game itself?

All these people in the UK talking about PS3 adverts - I've hardly seen any at all. It's all been 3DS and Kinect recently :S

You need to stp watching Nicklodeon, CITV and the Disney Channel then....

On mainstream commercial channels PS3 is by far the most advertised.

you have to watch Nicklodeon, CITV and the Disney Channel to know that, right?

I have a 10 year old daughter... take that!

Yeah, yeah, that's the usual excuse for parents and older siblings to watch that stuff!

I would happily take a machine gun to all things Disney Channel.... those kids are Stans spawn. (Wizards of waverly place should be banned!)

Theres a reason I have a TV room of my own.  (no... not that reason!!)

Not to watch Disney Channel girls when they grow up and become either plain or junky sluts?  O-) Too bad when they seek Paris Hilton's help to do that, her ugly face in the same photos makes their upskirts totally unsexy...

Adverts in the UK are actually pretty good these days, we didn't get the god-awful Kevin Butler crap (that got old really quick) thank god... so glad I'm not the only one that thinks its actually pretty cringe-worthy and doesnt promote the product in any way.

Sony advertise in the UK way more than either Nintendo and MS do, not to mention the ever-present and very high profile football advertising surrounding the Champions league. They even use wayne Rooney for that... a self confessed Xbot.

This.

Plus they have tonnes of advertising for multiplatform games now too.

Michael is the only good commerical/advertisement they made so far, there are absolutely no commercials as far as what I've seen here in the area of US I live in for Sony's playstation 3. But there are tons of Nintendo products and xbox advertising xD

Funny how the guy right above you pre-emptively proved you wrong :p

Also, the ad I posted was good too :D

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

playstation 3 sponsering channel 5 movies, on at the start and end of every break

I finally saw some Uncharted 3 commercials here in Canada, first ones in a long time. I haven't seen another commercial for any of the other exclusives all year.

Microsoft adds come on all the time, but it's always Kinect movie night nowadays.

Haven't seen a Wii add at all lately, just a few 3DS adds, nothing for PS Vita.

Seems like Microsoft gets a lifetime pass because of the Gears commercials, and PS3 is forever tainted because of the terrible launch commercials. Honestly I haven't seen one memorable Wii or Xbox commercial since 2007, but I remember many PS3 ones, like the Tentacle PS3 montages, many Kevin Butler ads and the "To Micheal" series.
