Forums - Sony Discussion - So.....I noticed Vita numbers are not that good this week. Can we talk about it now? (update because of Media Create numbers)

Sony Worldwide is doing OK, dont know what Sony Japan is doing. How can they not nailed Monster Hunter? They should pay loads of gold to Capcom to keep the game, and look what happens to The Last Guardian Fiasco. Sigh.

Was probably hard to do better then Nintendo did. Ironicaly because Sony already had 2 sticks. Im pretty sure Capcom will make loads of profit from the accessory/game bundle. That beind said, knowing their past behavior, its probably a timed exclusivity deal.

if Vita hardware not selling well means 3DS killer software and much cheaper price tag really totally defeat Vita for this holiday...
but if Vita hardware selling well means most users buying games from PSN since its much cheaper that's why its retail software sales are so low...

But Japanese customers tend to retail, or at least that's how i interpreted the poor performance of the PSP Go over there

During PSP/PSPgo era, the price of games was the same or more on PSN. I Wouldnt give any hard numbers, but its obvious the Vita downloadable titles will perform better. Not only Japanese customers would tend to go retail if its the same price, any nationality on the planet ; ). Most people purchase online and digitally only when they save money.

It doesn't have any software that will sell big in Japan which is similar to when the 3DS launched. But with good software PS Vita and 3DS will most likely be having some major competition at least in Japan not too sure how well it will fare in the West.

psp go was a redisign of the psp that launched for $70+ dollars more. it was wayyy to expensive for a 5 year old system. it also didnt have every psp game on psn, there was also no way for people to get their previously purchased games onto the pspGO. and the games on psn were wayyy to expensive, they were at least the price of retail, if not more expensive.

so the Go couldnt target existing psp owners, and couldnt target new potential buyers because the system was wayy to expensive.

2. Digital download games are going to be a gigantic part of Vita--every single retail game is also going to be downloadable. They are heavily pushing this functionality, and so I wouldn't be surprised if 30% to 50% of sales for the average game were from downloadable sales.

I don't think full game download is going to be as big as you'd think until the memory cards get cheaper.

How big are the games? 2-4 GB? It's going to fill up the memory card very fast.

I think the low sales are simply due to the the PSV having 20+ games available at launch. So far there hasnt been a an absolutely huge system selling game (UC is popular but not one of the must-haves) and with the huge variety of games, software sales has been split between all the 1st and 3rd party games.

I dont really know how well the PSV will do on launch in the western territories but I dont think it is hugely important as the DS (which picked up speed after a while) and the 3DS (which had a good launch but slowed in the following months) have shown. I really dont think they can do anything else other than more promotion - there is huge support for the PSV, a huge variety of games from 3rd party developers, better online connectivity than any console out there. I think the PSV will slowly pick up in sales as more and more games become available and the features become more well known.

It will be very interesting to see hardware numbers this week.

Digital downloads should be much more accepted on Vita than they were on the Go. As was said above, go was to expensive, to old, and very unappealing to PSP owners. Vita having every game guaranteed, and being 10 - 20% cheaper could be a major game changer.

I personally, still think that the future still leans towards the PS Suite route, of phones with a minimum spec and specific CPU/GPU set. Only time will tell though.

Ummm, wifi Vita sold out, higher capacity memory cards sold out, digital sales numbers? When Sony says digital sales are bad, then we can start worrying (Which may never happen, and we'll never get digital numbers for games in). Selling almost 400k of 500k shipment isn't bad for hardware numbers.

SONY acutally recently stated that Online sales have exceeded there expectations. Then look at the fact that Online games are actually significantly cheaper than retail and there's over 20 games at launch. We should expect low retail numbers.

The problem with the PSP go was that it would cost your more than a regular psp, 2 16gb microsd and an adapter to use them both on your PSP, and not all the games were available online. Then add in that fact that it adds very little new features (nothing essential actually). Price was what killed that system. Not online distribution.
