Here is a list of all the games, on the Saturn, that got 90%+, minimum of 5 reviews, minus the sports games, on Game Rankings, and perhaps, Metacritic:

Okay, the Playstation has more, 90%+ games, on Game Rankings, than the Nintendo 64, and Saturn, but I still think that the Nintendo 64 has better games, than the Playstation, and Saturn. The Saturn barely competes with the competition, but it still has its masterpieces.

Platformers: It is clear that the Nintendo 64 has the best platformers, out of all three consoles. Perhaps, that is why I like the Nintendo 64 the most, because platformers are my favorite games. Crash, Spyro, and Ape Escape, are all fantastic 3D platformers, but they just don't compete with Banjo, Mario, Conker, and Donkey Kong. What about the 2D platformers? Well, Nintendo 64 doesn't have any, and the Playstation has Abe's Odyssey, and Castlevania, but I don't think they save the Playstation from not having better platformers, as a whole, compared to the Nintendo 64. Saturn has Nights into Dreams... That's it... Yes, it's amazing, but sorry, it just doesn't compete with the competition.

Fighting games: Because the Super Smash Bros. franchise, is the only fighting franchise, that I own, I can't really say much about other fighting games. I like Super Smash Bros. because up to four players can play, unlike the typical two, of other fighting games, and you can play as any of your favorite Nintendo characters. To me, other fighting games all seem the same. But, the Playstation has far too many, good fighting games, than the Nintendo 64, so the Playstation wins. Saturn comes in second place. Nintendo 64 comes in last. Super Smash Bros. is Nintendo 64's only good, fighting game. Yes, I like it more than any other fighting game, besides Super Smash Bros. Melee, but it's just one game, and it can't compete with the competition, as a whole.

Now for the racing games... Well, since kart racers are my favorite games, I would give the upper hand to the Nintendo 64, for having Mario Kart 64, and Diddy Kong Racing. The Playstation has Crash Team Racing, which also kicks ass, but loses against Mario Kart 64, and maybe Diddy Kong Racing. However, we are not comparing kart racers, but all racing games, and this is where the Playstation wins. Nintendo 64 has the kart racers, and Wave Race 64, but the Playstation has one kart racer, the Gran Turismo games, and Wipeout games, so it wins. Saturn comes in last place. It has a few, good racing games, but it doesn't have a single, good, kart racer, and Sonic R is a let-down.

RPG games? Yeah... The Playstation definitely owns the Nintendo 64, regarding RPG games. Sure, the Nintendo 64 has Paper Mario, but that is all that it has, that's good. The Playstation has all the Final Fantasy games, and many other, epic RPG games. Sorry Nintendo 64, but the Playstation wins again. Nintndo 64 comes in second place, only having Paper Mario, and the Saturn comes in last, barely behind Nintendo 64, with Panzer Dragoon Saga, which is an RPG game, unlike the other Panzer Dragoon games, which are shooting games.

Flight games? Nintendo 64. Why? Star Fox 64. Second? Saturn. Why? Panzer Dragoon games. Third? Playstation. Why? Colony Wars games. Over all, all three are not far apart from each other.

Adventure games? Nintendo 64. Why? Zelda! Playstation gets second place. Saturn gets third place.

Everything else? I'm not sure. However, as a whole, I still like the Nintendo 64 the best. Sure, there are more, good games on the Playstation, but certain gems on the Nintendo 64, just make it funner than the rest. The Playstation has the advantage with RPG games, and fighting games, but the Zelda games, platform games, and kart racers, on the Nintendo 64, are the reasons why I like the Nintendo 64, more than the Playstation. Sure, the Playstation has Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7, and other, great games, but the Nintendo 64 has more games, in the list of top 10 games of all time, than the Playstation, and the Playstation's best games may be made up of too many fighters, and RPG games. As for the Saturn, only Nights into Dreams, and maybe the Panzer Dragoon games, are appealing. So, to conclude, the Nintendo 64 has more of the greatest games of all time, has more games that I like the most, but the Playstation has more, good games, and the Saturn... Well... It has good games too.

The N64 era for Nintendo was all about quality vs. quantity. Lots of masterpieces, like you said, but not enough third party support. I still give the nod to the N64 here.

I have to say I enjoyed both PS1 and N64 games equally for various reasons. So I dont think I could decide

Ah...my college days. Time to reminisce a little

I wasn't a hardcore gamer back then(as these were my college days and I had a lot of other distractions) but I do remember having a strong preference for Playstation when the console arguments would start. I remember my lame argument was something to the effect that the PS 1 CD's resulted in better graphics than what the N64 could do with the cartridges. Funny thing is when I think about which games I enjoyed most from this generation Goldeneye and OOT top the list. I also enjoyed NFL Blitz (I think) which was on the N64.

The PS games I remember playing and somewhat enjoying
- Tekken
- EA and 989 sports games (I was a huge fan of NHL games)
- Bruce Willis apocalypse game I think
- MGS
- Resident Evil
- Silent Hill
- Parasite Eve
- Crash Bandicoot
- GT

I never played a game on the Saturn, but someone in my house owned a Genesis. I played the crap out of NHL 95 on the Genesis, and literally thought I was the best in the world at it. I remember another group of our friends was hyping up this other guy. They had never seen me play and I had never seen this guy play. One night we were throwing a party and an argument broke out, so we ended up playing. There was prolly around 50 people crammed in our living room betting on the game and cheering and what not. Most of the people there cared nothing about gaming they just got caught up in everyone aruging about who was going to win. I ended up winning. Man was there a lot of trash talked before, during, and after the game. I sure wish online gaming and ranked matches were around back then.

Back on topic. Due to the longer list I mentioned I guess my nod will have to go to PS 1.

But, the Playstation comes at a close second:

Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 9
Crash Bandicoot
Crash Bandicoot 2
Crash Bandicoot 3
Crash Team Racing
Wipeout XL
Chrono Chross
Colony Wars

Plus: Tekken

N64 wins this by far, but PSX and Saturn have a race from the second place. Looking at first party only, it would be easy: N64, Saturn, PSX, but PSX had few great 3rd party games, which can match Segas first party.

N64 FTW!

For me the Saturn was the best. It had many great titles that got passed on.

  • Shining Force 3
  • Shining the Holy Ark
  • Sega Rally
  • Daytona CE
  • The Legend of Oasis
  • Tomb Raider
  • Mr Bones
  • Decathlete
  • Winter Heat
  • Dragon Force
  • Iron Storm
  • Fighters Megamix
  • Virtua Cop 1 & 2
  • NiGHTS
  • Panzer Dragoon 1 thru 3
  • Virua Fighter 1 & 2
  • Radiant Silvergun

The N64 would be second for me with only a couple of great titles but a nice selection of good titles (Beetle Battle, Battletanx 1 & 2, all Turoks, Conkers, and Sin and Punishment).

  • Perfect Dark
  • Goldeneye
  • Resident Evil 2
  • Zelda OoT

The PS1 would be third. It had some great titles but most of their big titles I thought where overrated (every Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Tekken, and Gran Trismo) and I also hate the PS1 controller.

  • Resident Evil 1 & 2
  • Silent Hill

The playstation had alot more games than youre featuring on that last; Tony Hawk springs to mind, as does Gran turismo without a doubt. Vagrant story, spyro's; the library was massive with more than its fair share of gems.

N64 had an amazing line up, but PSone introduced me to so many brilliant franchises that Ill have to go with that.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned for Sega. - Jason Lee, Mallrats.

http://theaveragejoe.sportsblognet.com/ - Mainly American Football, snippets of Basketball, European Football and Hockey.

/\ Plus the saturn had one of the best libraries of shmups for any console.

Anyway; PSX>N64=Sat
