Yeah reunification of the Koreas would have to be slow so as not to ruin the South. It will take many billions to get the North to resemble a modern country.

I'd like to think a young leader like Kim Jon-un would be more progressive, and be less cruel to his people then his father was. But then again, he was apparently chosen as heir because he's like his father. His older brother fell out of favor for trying to go to Tokyo Disneyland >_>. |
Considering his young age - he will probably be just a figure head for generals ruling from shadows. After all if he didn't agree they can replace him at any time.

I remember that Kim Jong Il's sister and her husband got some power there as well.
would they allow young Kim Jon-un to take over?

I just hat to think of this Kotaku article from about a year ago:

There is consensus among xxxxx that, at least for the moment, none of KJI's three sons is likely to be tapped to succeed him. xxxxx considers the two youngest sons, Kim Jong-chol and Kim Jong-un, far too inexperienced and incapable of effective governance. xxxxx, observing that KJI's oldest son, Kim Jong-nam, is "too much of a playboy," Kim Jong-chol is "more interested in video games" than governing, and Kim Jong-un is simply too young. Additionally, KJI had been groomed for many years to replace his father and former North Korean leader Kim Il-Sung before the latter passed away. In contrast, xxxxx, none of the sons has received similar preparatory treatment.
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

i wonder if this will do anything for Homefront sales

This is good news, I suppose. I'm pessimistic about the potential for change. Let's face it Kim Jong-il hadn't been in charge of North Korea for years anyway. His son, the party leaders and his generals probably had far more say in the politics than he ever had for the past few years.
