Call of Duty already changed (destroyed) the industry enough by copying Hollywood and the cinematic experience. In this console generation nearly all big budget games already turned from being games into being interactive movies. And now these guys are cheered for dumbing down gaming even more.

Cheer for story driven gaming that doesn't need to make the game into a movie then! That's what I'm doing. ^_^

My thoughts echo what Slimebeast just said. I don't think the gaming industry necessarily needs to go for incredible storytelling. It's fine to have it in some games (like Uncharted) but it's definitely not a prerequisite for a great game.

Signature goes here!

i hope what there trying to do works

The CoD problem is two way and arguably more than two way in the other direction. - I'd argue half the problem with movies such as Transformers is they are becoming too much like games - all action as a substitute for interaction and way too little character and depth.  In short I don't think cinema is dumbing down games so much as games are helping contribute to dumbing down cinema.

Cinema was simply the medium that started to get dumbed down to appeal to the lowest common action orientated denominator first and gaming is simply following faster and activily contributing.

I'd also note Hollywood and US "entertainment" cinema does not equal the totality.

Hopefully ND are thinking a lot less of CoD and/or Transformers and a whole lot more like Alien or Let The Right One In (in terms of depth of characterisation and narrative context).

I also wish when a developer wants to try something people wouldn't argue with the same boring all generalities.  They aren't trying to make every game story lead nor is that their goal.  They want their game to be that way and they want to offer better than the medium has historically in that regard.  Is it really necessary to start panicing for all other genres every time there is a focus by a single developer in a single area?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Call of Duty is almost entirely focused on gameplay, I'm not sure what you are implying here.

This... it just disgust me. NG is pioneering the worst movement in the industry.

Well, that's how it is this gen.

We get cinematic games and people panics. We get motion controls and people panics. Everybody panics.

OT: *panics*

holy shit! if you don't liek cinematic experiences buy other games and stop posting in threads about such games! i mean ffs! it's like me going into every RPG related thread and saying how those companies are leading the way in boring games since I 'personally' don't enjoy RPGs much. makes no sense whatsoever

@slimbeast: we got it..you don't like ND games...no need to whine in every thread about them and their games

OT: good to hear, more story driven games ftw! GG take note, it's not the story but how you tell it

Yeah, but you were also skeptical of HR and look how that turned out!

Remember this: "Thank God CGI is the only one excited for that game" - Kantor. Classic!

Ha, in truth, I want some game play too, but being that it's Naughty Dog, I have more faith in them than I had pre-release with Quantic Dream.

Bear in mind that I made that comment back when Heavy Rain was a creepy uncanny-valley Lauren pointing a handgun. It didn't start looking good until a lot later.

And I feel I started to get hyped for it when it deserved that hype

It's Naughty Dog... so I believe.
