alan wake has a great atmosphere!

and if you like a really crazy game you should all play amnesia the dark descent. i know you americans don't play a lot pc games (not sure why but this seems to be the case) but you really should ply this in a dark room with headphones without rushing through the game. wohoo you will pee in your pants!

Actually, Okami's atmosphere was one of the reasons I fell in love with it in the first place. Considering that atmosphere is probably more important in adventure games than in any other genre, Okami pulled it off perfectly. The art style was a really great addition and the environments were just beautiful.

Also Amnesia: the dark descent. This game scared the crap out of me. Alone, with the dark and using headphones, it gets to you quickly and you literally start to panic when the character does.


I was thinking of Fallout 3, but my thoughts were that things were just rubbish and despressing... Though often the Bethesda atmosphere if often ruined by bugs unfortunately

The obvious one is Bishock, but that atmosphere was really really creepy, so I couldn't play the game

Batman AA is an obvious one too (haven't played AC yet), perfectly captures being Batman, as has been said many times before, you can't take Batman out that game and still have a game like so many other super hero games

I would give a shout to Heavy Rain and LA Noire, both kept me incredibly immersed in the game (the first making me depressed for a while apart from the Jayden bits...)

For me it goes to Uncharted 3. From the single player to the MP it was the first time I felt that I was actually interacting with the atmospher/ environment to proceed through the game. I just loved that feeling. But Killzone 2 comes second for me and at a close third is Bioshock.

Are you referring to the way that Nate tocuhes the wall instead of just running into it, as I do agree that made a huge difference, even with the issues of his selective grabbing
