Forums - Sony - PSVita supports multiple PSN Accounts per system, but only if you have multiple memory cards.

It isn't reading comprehension at fault. I'm just bypassing the argument by saying, "where else do you even get the option".

Nowhere. So why are people complaining? Think of it this way. The identity of your system is tied to your mem card. You pull that out, and it's a blank machine. That's fucking cool if you ask me. Nowhere else do you get that option.

And the complaint about having to buy two copies of a game?

You have a ps3 with mutiple accounts. You download on one, share to the other, download both accounts to different mem cards. No buying two versions! Then you have the US/Japan, or EU/Japan, US/EU etc etc.

And please, people complained when they were limited to how many copies of a game they could share. Seriously. I can't permanetly give copies of my downloaded games to my friends for free. Fuck Sony!

I think the only real point here is that the cards are expensive. 50$ is quite a bit. But youknow what, I'm not uncormfortable with my friends playing with my portables. And if I was, I'd probably already be of the mindset that my hangups cost me money in hand sanitizer, plastic wrap for my couch for when friends come over, buying a second bottle of coke in case a friend wants a sip of mine. :D

Actually, quite a few places.

1) Any Android device. I can have and do have multiple google accounts including one my wife and I share for Google Music so we can share all the music we purchase. This would include phones, tablets, google tv, etc. (I don't own iOS or WM, but I'd bet at least WM does this as well)

2) PS3 and 360. You can have any number of PSN/Live accounts and utilize them individually on the same machine without anything extra.

3) All Nintendo handhelds based on the game itself. While games like Pokemon force one save at a time, the greater majority do not and multiple people can all share the same system/game with different game saves without any extra cost. Hell, quite a few games allow you to play multiplayer with only one copy of the game with numerous other same system owners. Now here the console is tied to the store and digital purchases which in itself is a poorer solution than having a PSN/Live account, but, that's a different argument.

4) Any PC/Mac/computer. all of these allow you to create any number of profiles with fully different settings and even applications all from the same hardware without any extra cost.

Fact is, its a damn shame how Sony is forcing this limitation on its users and I'm 100% positive its based solely on increasing their bottom line, not consumer experience or technical limitations.

They should have followed their PS3 approach with a limited in device memory (<16GB is cheap) that allowed n number of PSN accounts and then utilize a normal SD card slot for memory expansion. This would have allowed them the security model (as that would be on the internal memory) as well as the extra storage needed for bigger media or simply more of it. I am sure they thought of this solution.

So it's exactly the same thing. You have different save files and run throughs on the same card. Here bro, (hands over Vita) just start a new game and save it in a different save slot. Done. Problem solved.

The only issue there should be with this is worrying about people writing over your save games accidentally. It is the same issue on DS.

I don't think your other examples jsutify your argument. So you can have multiple users on a pc. Why would you automatically assume this is standard? My droid doesn't have multiple users, fyi. My DS doesn't. You're taking things that are geared towards multiple users and comparing them to a handheld gaming device. You might as well mention how your bank account supports multiple users, or how a house has several rooms in the same overall space.

And actually, much of their security has to do with the memory beign tied to the system. Same thing goes for the ps3.
Additionally, sure, they could've done it in a way that was cheaper for the consumer, but what company does that, man? 360 had specialized hard drives that were WAYY more expensive than standard drives! Everything is specialized nowadays. That's the reality of the industry. The fact that Sony still gives as much as they do with the ps3 is perplexing. They are losing so much potential income. No proprietary hard drives. No proprietary USB charger. The 400$ slim had a regular power cord! Everything was boxed in. You could even share full versions of games with like unlimited people at one time!

You can discount the DS comparison, sure. But you can't discount Android (your droid) or computers etc.

Fact is, I agree that its a personal item, like DS or any portable device. They are intended to be used by one person and therefore then entire issue is really not a big one as it won't affect the majority of those who actually buy it. However, that doesn't mean it was a good final solution. It was a greedy final solution.

Above all that is the Sony specific memory. That should not have been the case at all. Its the same crap MS pulled with the 360 as you pointed out and its probably what Sony will do with PS4 and Nintendo with WiiU now that they see consumers will do it. Its just irritating as it not needed for any reason other than padding the companies profits.

Sure, as a customer getting into Sony handhelds for the first time I'd say that argument is justifiable.
As a customer who owns a ps3 and knows they went 6B into the hole padding it with features, I'd say it's not a big deal that I have to spend 30-50 dollars on a proprietary memory card.
Shit, mem cards on ps2 and ps1 used to be 35$ or so as well, and those were proprietary. I just don't see it as a big deal. Other people can feel free to do so.

That's why I'm glad I have multiple accounts on my cell phone. I don't want anybody using my phone to call other people--they have their own....no. That's not......uh. That's why I'm glad I have multiple accounts on my 3DS! I don't want anybody messing up my save data....no. Can't do it there, either. Fuck.

Okay. Sony is in trouble. They need the Vita to be a grand slam and the negativity around it is deafening. And why? Half the people complaining aren't buying a Vita anyway. Of the half that will buy a Vita, half of them won't make a second account if they could (like I didn't with my two PSP's). Of the half that do, they'll soon realize that a 32 MB memory card doesn't really hold a lot of portable HD content. They'll likely buy physical copies of their foreign games (because we all LOVE playing foreign games we don't understand, right?

The 3DS and Nintendos online systems in general are even close to Sonys.  Quite frankly they aren't good enough to start getting these problems.

The US PS store gets so much more content than any SCEE territory you would not believe it, games the US store got years ago are still yet to be released on SCEE stores, even ones that do get released in all stores are often long delayed on SCEE store, and I haven't began on the prices being jacked on on SCEE stores.  Some countries do not even have a store so using an alt account isn't a bonus but a requirement just to get the same standard.

You are in the US right?  I doubt you ever encountered these issues.

I didn't think of it that way.  Sometimes, I forget that this site isn't just for people in my particular situation.

I made that post on my phone and it was supposed to be worded better with a shocking twist ending but my phone rang so I hit "submit" really quickly.  I planned to go back and edit it but I forgot what the point of my rant was!

So since Sony made some questionable business choices we should be the ones who foot the bill? The thing about PS1 memory cards was what else were we going to use? There was no other cheap option, same for PS2, that was at a time where USBs were still quite expensive I believe. Now when SD cards are really cheap($30-$40 for a 32GB) they decide to release a super expensive proprietary drive? and we should just sit here because they made stupid business decisions in the past? pfft.... where's Unsight's user ignore script?

Want to know why I like the PS3 and had no issues buying one? Because I knew I could just toss any 2.5 inch HDD in there, and I did. It's a WD black 500GB so I even have 5 years of warranty on it, which is longer than the PS3 warranty, on top of it being on sale and I got it super cheap. When you release a product, you want to make it attractive especially to your current product users, by doing shit like this where I have to buy 3 memory cards at a premium just so I can have different accounts where I won't be locked out of DLC content is fucking bull shit and I'm a very value oriented shopper. Shit like this is what MS would possibly do, and that's part of the reason why I sold my 360 because MS gaming division jacks the shit out of your wallet for no good reason other than to feed on sheeps. I don't know how Sony can convince me to buy a Vita atm when I have 3 active PSN accounts. I'm Asian, I understand other languages, shocker! It's just not good for people like me. At least I have the option of never buying one I guess.....

OK, I speak ENglish French and conversational japanese, so games help me learn.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's 250$ for a vita. That is retardedly cheap for what you're getting inside it.

You know they are selling these at a loss. The mem card is probably the only thing that keeps it profitable. I'd say that it takes a Vita, one proprietary game, and a mem card to break even. Have you seen the specs on it!?

Dude the camera can do head tracking.
So fps games, looking around a corner, you could do with your face.

Sorry but the tech inside is so good it's retarded.

It's like no matter what Sony or Square Enix do, they can't win with internet people.

@ Bolded

There's your problem.
