Forums - Sales - Nintendo: Black Friday - Wii 500k, Zelda 535k FW

Nice numbers for the Wii and grats for the 3DS already preforming better than the DS. Looks like a good time to buy some Nintendo stock considering their stock has been raped the past few months. Too bad I'm too broke from bills and buying the 3DS to buy any stock.

Those are great numbers for Nintendo. I'm happy Zelda opened so well

Impressive Wii numbers, I didn't see that coming!

SS sales where just ok, I was little bit worried since I saw a lot traditional Zelda fans complaining about its controls and/or art style.

"The Nintendo Wii had its biggest Black Friday ever more with than 500,000 units sold just during Black Friday and the pre-Black openings at some stores, he says."

WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT!! 500k is biggest BF for Wii?

Last year they said they did 600k but that was for the full week, this is just for BF (and stores that opened late Thursday). So going by BenVTriggers projection of PS3 being just slightly below Wii this means that PS3 should be over 500k across Americas.

Hopefully Sony release an estimate, the estimate I've been given isn't anywhere near 500k though.

What was the estimate you got for the Wii? Considering pretty much every piece of anecdotal and inside information suggested PS3 outselling Wii outside of Walmart that seems rather odd. Particularly considering Wii's total Americas sales for the full week are likely comfortably over 600k.

If Wii turns out selling much better than PS3 for BF, it would prove that

1. anecdotal evidence doesn't mean much

2. Walmart has a huge market for video game sales.

1. doesn't mean anything anyway, going by anecdotal evidence most sites might as well have had the Wii dead, but it's just done its best numbers ever on the day.

2. I think it's big anyway, but I think it's more people have unrealistic expectations for PS3, I've seen some 500k predictions for this week. When It only did 530k in the US for the entire Nov month last year, including GT5 launching, that just seems a tad optimistic to me. They also didn't mention in their PR they were up or anything, actually they didn't allude to any numbers at all. Hopefully we do get something though, I still think the PS3 could have had a solid BF and Nov overall.

Yeah, tbh I think the trend has seen the PS3 suffer a bit in the US each year during the holidays. It will definitely be on top in Europe and Japan, but America really seems out of its reach.

And really if it has never done 500k before in the US, why would it do it now? UC3 is not that big of a system mover so i don't see any reason

GT5 did give a great decemeber for PS3 though last year. And we can't say UC3 isn't a big system move until NPD numbers come out

Nah bro, IPAD killed 3DS and Vita already. If Mario was a $0.99 iphone game it would have sold 50x that amount. Nintendo needs to get with the times.

I accept your ridiculous 50x statement and I do the maths.

(500k x 50) x $0.99= 24.750.000                                                                                   Total copies sold: 25.000.000

500k x 39,99 = 19.995.000 and no saturated market.                                            Total copies sold:       500.000 and many more to go!

You guys really need to stop taking that preorder chart seriously. It's a joke.

really putting things in perspective eh... I wonder how many games even sold 25 million copies on iOS

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

wow.... who would have thought wii was still alive.... Great for the 3DS and Zelda. Cant wait to get my Zelda 3DS bundled

I wonder what some people want.

Zelda sets record for quickest to half a million -- yet people here are saying it sold poorly.

I guess that's the Internet for you.

People will say outrageous things like that just because they can.  I seriously don't see anything bad about this news.  Skyward Sword is anything but a bomb; if anything, it's on its way to being a bonafide hit.  I think people were expecting WAY too much; this is nonetheless a very solid opening number.  Its Japanese launch numbers are smaller, but nowhere near bomb territory; at least over there it still sold 165k.  Considering that many other Wii games have fared far worse, I'd say Skyward Sword got lucky.  Anyone declaring it a bomb and a poor sales performance must be absolutely insane.

People were basing their expectations on this

As such compared to expectations it has done rather poorly, what was expected was more around the million mark.
