Forums - Gaming - Skyrim Issues? Duh, of course, but has the smoking gun finally been found?

That article from DF is great. The part " with some freezes lasting long enough to drag the frame-rate down to zero in places - the first time we've seen this in years of performance analysis here at Digital Foundry." says a lot.

Bethesda should just quit developing for the PS3 (at this point they´re doing more harm than good, and hopefully customers punish them)..either that, or at least give the game over to someone else and let them handle it (perhaps whoever ported Oblivion to the PS3).They´re simply inept at properly developing for the system.

While I don't agree him getting banned for what he said on that thread alone, as it was hardly anything wrong, he was indeed going overboard in every Skyrim thread trashing the game left and right. And he didn't had the PS3 version to begin with, he had the 360 version and was thinking of trading for the PS3 version, so he wasn't one of the people suffering from this mess.

You do have a point. But I felt like he was trying to get a discusion about what should or shouldnt be accepted, not hating or trolling. His opinion was articulated. But yeah he did post everywhere Skyrim was the subject lol.

He was indeed, and in the thread he got banned he actually had a point. Both he and classicgamingwizz didn't deserve the bans they got.

"When you load the save game, you're loading all of those differences into resident memory."

Well, there's your problem. It shouldn't be too hard to cache this data on the hdd and only load the relevant stuff for the cell you are in.

How is this database structured anyway? It takes half to a full second now to add/remove anything to/from a chest in my house while it is instant in a relatively new game, with the same amount of things in both my inventory and house. (Storing alchemy ingredients to make potions when the chest fills up again)

It's almost like it does an expensive insertion operation on one incredibly huge array of all the changes in the whole game...

Anyway no point holding on to the game for DLC, seems it can only get worse.

I'm not sure if this is has something to do with the patch or hell breaks lose when you reach level 40 but with 250 points of armor and 270 health I was killed by a single charge attack from a Forsworn Briorheart and a hour later by a single Ice Strom Spell.

Former something....

Icffel bad for the ps3 owners that are having a tough time with skyrim. Personally I always getby Bethesda games first on the 360 and then when the goty addition comes out for PC I pick that up and download some drear mods.

Im going through the same thing. Its long to store all the ingredients. Thats a strange side effect of their programming problem.

my PS3 version is now at 9MB save size, and im still not experiancing lag, I played the game for a good 2-3 hours today aswell.

Could you comment on the frame rate outside of this entire 6MB issue? I want to know if it's at least stable. Some people were saying it can dip to the 20ish regions during intense fights :/

Yes, the regular blank PS3 version of Skyrim just like Oblivion can easily dip downwards to 20 fps during intense fights. Not a problem for me. Many other games dip significantly below 30 fps and this is a fairly slow RPG, not a shooter.

My save file is now 7.3 MB with 70 hours of gameplay and I've just started to get some stuttering but nothing that is close to unplayable.

Wait, when did you start buying multiplatform games on PS3? Is your 360 broken or something?
