Forums - Gaming - Skyrim Issues? Duh, of course, but has the smoking gun finally been found?

Still, that doesn't justify the majority of the perfect or near perfect reviews that the PC version had, especially since Skyrim does have some glaring flaws and does have some major letdowns in the PC version.

The PS3 version got the same perfect or near perfect reviews. Those that did mention the technical problems at all pretty much glossed over them as being minor compared to what an amazing experience Skyrim is. The only exception has been OPM UK, who rightly called Bethesda out for the game's horrible performance but still gave them a 7/10 when they probably should have graded it as an incomplete. I'm very interested to see what PTOM gives it when my issue gets here, since their magazine has been swimming in Skyrim ads for close to a year now.

The lag issue could be easily looked over by most reviewers, especially those that only played a few hours in the game, like when Naz reviewed it here for VGC having only played 60 hours. Still, the PS3 version has far more bugs than the other two versions combined and it really is a shitty job by both bethesda and the PS3 version reviewers to gloss over those bugs. There's no way that version should have gotten even one perfect nor near perfect review.

@JGarret - I agree completely. It seems that with the PS3 version of Skyrim they went back to their 90s ways of releasing their games with a shitload of game-breaking bugs and hoping that no one would notice. Daggerfall all over again. I think the whole 11-11-11 release date fiasco really messed up with their priorities in getting all versions right.

I've noticed the lack of resistance effecst after the 1.2 patch but other than that everything is running fine with 98 hours in the game.

@ Svennoj I have to say since we both had the lag on the Solitude assasination mission. If you kill the target and quickly run along a safe path out of the area and leave your slave/follower behind at the front gate the mob will not find you and you will experience zero lag. Just thought it was worth noting that it only happens when the mob is near you which is obviously causing the system to have to process a lot more.

well the game will be fixed when i buy it.

Yeah the lag cleared up once I got out of line of sight. However after the 2nd assasination in Solitude the guards did not reset and the game kept telling me they were still in pursuit thus disabling rest and fast travel. It didn't matter how far I walked away. The only fix was to walk all the way back to Solitude and meet the 10 guards waiting at the door there to pay a 40 gold fine.

Some good news, I got rid of the constant crashing. Today it crashed instantly on my first load of a new area. Then again 10 minutes later, also while the game was attempting to autosave. I disabled all autosave options and now I can play again. Manual saves work although they take upto 20 sec with a 13mb file, but at least no crashing. Apparently saving while loading a new area or pulling up the menu (on periodic autosave in menu) is too much too handle for the game with 13mb+ save games.

The areas load in better too now, so disable all autosave options and don't forget to save manually after standing still for a couple of seconds.

Also, since it's blatantly clear that you have no intention of ever touching the game

Oh look, the losers argument, you cannot make a defence of a broken game (and please do not act like the ps3 version is the only one with major problems, all three are full of issues with broken quests via several methods, major glitches and so forth) so you instead presume to READ MY MIND and tell me what I do and don't intend to do.

What a great argument this is, no flaw in that surely?  Couldn't be I'm waiting for a game that isn't broken before I part with money to play it like I've suggested?  Nope, because you can READ MINDS.

So, now to personal insults are we? Tsk tsk, it seems you're losing your touch.

Broken quests? Yes there are a couple, but mostly because of glitchy quest marks rather than the entire quest being broken, plus it's an issue easily fixed (at least on the PC version). Even so, there are only very few quests like that and the grand majority of them are quests on the Radiant Quest system, which creates the "infinite quests" system. Also, some quests are unfinisheable if some conditions are not met or if you do a series of tasks before the quests begins. Correct me if i'm wrong, but a lot of RPGs also get broken quests or unfinishable quests on the same situations or not?

It is kind amusing how you're acting as the party with the most experience with the game. I guess my 100+ hours in the game and a lot of the people here in this forum or on most forums (including the bethesda ones) have said that (PS3 version apart) Skyrim has been the less buggy Bethesda game and most people go through entire playthroughs without bugs, CTDs or major glitches (prior to Patch 1.2). I bow down to your immense knowledge.

Oh please, now you're retracting from your original statement just to try to get some glimmer of validity. You said yourself that people should stop giving money and supporting broken trash. If by that phrase you're hoping that people read in it that you're somewhat interested in the game and that you'll buy it or try it down the road, you did a pretty shitty job with it. But please, do go ahead with your non-sensical retorts about these issues. At least it's amusing me

Utterly unacceptable. I now feel bad for wagram.

" As you can see on the 65 hour side, the effect is impossible to miss and given its severity, the outcry that has followed on forums is very much justified. These prolonged bouts of stuttering render the game almost completely unplayable, even during non-intensive walks down pathways, with some freezes lasting long enough to drag the frame-rate down to zero in places - the first time we've seen this in years of performance analysis here at Digital Foundry.

Expectedly, it's business as usual for the new game save, which only suffers from a few hiccups when attempting to stream geometry or passing through areas with a high density of NPCs. These are a minor nuisance, and generally don't detract from the gameplay to anywhere near the same extent.

When the 65 hour game isn't stuttering, we notice that it tends to settle on 20FPS as its baseline, with the new save holding out at around the 30FPS mark. Considering that the same environments are being rendered in each case, this strongly suggests it isn't an issue that can be solved by direct graphical tweaks. Both runthroughs are seeing the same geometry, weather effects, shadows, and presumably have the same LOD settings in play.

Interestingly, walking past NPCs seems to be a more consistent instigator of these stutters when they do happen, particularly as you pass through heavily occupied places like the Whiterun market, which coincides with the larger freezes. There's a definite sense of cause and effect here which indicates that areas where a player has an extensive history of interaction, via quests events or dialogue trees, are prone to the greater pitfalls. This isn't a hard and fast rule though, as walking through incomplete dungeons or outdoors terrain can also bear down heavily on the console and make for some choppy motion - just not as badly. "

That is indeed a shitty job made by Bethesda and trully unacceptable. PS3 owners have every right to be pissed.

Heck, if that's the lag when you're just travelling, I can only imagine the amount of lag during intense battles against mages or multiple creatures + dragons >_>.
