Forums - General - Would a 3D Ipad do better than the 3DS?

It would do better sales wise, lets face it people don't buy I-Pads as game devices at least usually they don't. They buy an I-Pad to watch movies and listen to music to surf the web and enjoy tons of informative apps. A 3D I-Pad would be a nerds wet dream and millions would rush out to buy one. Even if 3DS had the movie playing capabilities of I-Pad and the music store to match the screen is still much smaller and the device caters to gamers a much smaller market then I-Pad.

So sales wise yah I-Pad would own 3DS. By how much? I'm not sure but they would definitly take Nintendo out sales wise.

But what about game quality? As gamers we care about the games not the movies and the music. With no Apple first party content and even if their was Apple lacks the game studios or capabilities to make Microsoft level games let alone Nintendo. The third party games on I-Pad 3D would be terrible. The majority of the developers would take their existing 2D I-Pad 2 games and port them to 3D. A few brave developers would make new 3D games but they would be crap in comparison to any of the three first parties or even half the third parties.

Even the games from third parties wouldn't be up to the task of taking on their better offerings on 3DS. Personally I think Apple should aquire Gameloft and make them Apple first party, they would likely be one of the highest quality 3D developers.

In the end sales wise I-Pad 3D would dominate, quality wise Nintendo 3DS would still own. P.S I fully expect 3D I-Pad either with I-Pad 3 this year or in the next 2-3 years. They will go 3D pretty soon.

Of course it would sell better. It has an i in front.

I'm not going to even read the OP as the question itself is just stupid.

iPad is not a games device... its a tablet. It sells to a far larger set of consumers and will of course sell better regardless of the crossover of functionality... which really only is one, i.e. games.

This is like asking if a computer will sell more than a console. It just makes no sense at all.

What I'd like to know is who will sell more $30 to $50 games, given the content is pretty much the same to justify the price similarity. My guess? 3DS by the truckload.

My question to that would be, does the Ipad or even Iphone have 30-50 dollar games? Obviously the 3DS is the clear winner with that. Makes me wonder if the higher game prices evens them out some in the end. Just to sell the same amount an Ipad game needs to sell a lot more copies (Duh!).

What if the 3DIPAD was mainly just a gaming pad, and there was still the regular Ipad 2 out there? That would be the true question here. There is not doubt that the 3D ipad would win as it is now.

lol Spurge I don't think I have ever pointed out something you say as being well whack. But this is whack Apple would never create a "just gaming pad". But in the hypothetical scenerio that Apple did creates a video games centric 3D I-Pad with 30$ or so games, it would fail miserably to beat Nintendo's 3DS.

Apple lacks the first party content, the third party content while decent is not in the same league as the better third party content on 3DS. take away the 99cent games on I-Pad and software sales would plummet nobody is going to pay 30-50$ for Angry Birds 3D. Apple would be commiting suicide to take Nintendo on head to head.

Apple will never do that, the hypethical scenerio is irrational. Even if Apple attacks the home consoles it will be with a home entertainment unit not a video games console. It will be Apple TV or such with games not a games console with other features. Apple knows they do not have the expertise to make games capable of competing with Nintendo, MS or Sony on an even playing field. Apple needs the multimedia support and all their other devisions in order to compete.

You will never see an Apple console dedicated to gaming the way any of Nintendo's consoles are. The way Microsoft and Sony are headed putting such a great emphasis on movies and growing on music , Apple could likely create a product with similar attributes. But could never take on any of the big three head to head on an even playing field.

It might work until the effect is foiled by smudging fingers across the screen.

Accessory manufacturers will make a fortune by selling iCloths.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

Of course it will sell better. Apple fanboys are extremely loyal.

That would actually help out the 3DS believe it or not, it would reenergize 3d hype and nintendo will be in the right place with the 3DS.

sell better? no it wouldn't didnt the original ipad sell like 15 million. the ds did over 100 million. I know the ipad 2 is selling better than the original but a 3d ipad wouldn't outsell the 3ds in the long run. Also i wouldnt really care about it since i have it on my 3ds with better games.

for me, ipad is a very useless expensive thing, except if you really need one for a special reason, eg. studying

I mean, you don't get an ipad for it's games or music, maybe movies now that i think of it

anyway, Nintendo can make the 3DS as huge as the ipad, all they have to do is:

- Nintendo app store
- youtube channel
- email channel
- Twitter channel
- Facebook channel
- Skype channel

and combined with steetpass and spotpass these apps can be huge, but Nintendo always likes to limit their products success...

and...voiala: Nintendo 3DS sales surpass ishit sales : P

edit: accoarding to Wikipedia, iPad has sold 38.85 units WW until 24 September 2011, don't know why, I had the impression it was much more huge
