lol I really am not that concerned with his feelings. Rather the fact that all of the blame gets placed on Reggie for Nintendo's failures when it isn't Reggie who is entirely at fault. He is doing his job and doing the absolute best he can, considering he himself doesn't control Nintendo's studios and a lot of the marketing is now handled by third parties.
I see no reason why everyone is blaming him, I also side with a lot of Nintendo's decisions. I just find it pretty stupid that everytime NOA does something people don't like they blame Reggie. When Reggie himself doesn't make all the decisions and given the fact he doesn't directly oversee game development and he works with Nintendo in Japan on everything. Its safe to assume he is capable of doing a lot of things if he and NOA were given more control.
Such as creating products specifically for the North American market. Reggie did amazing things at his prior businesses it isn't that he is a bad President. In fact I wouldn't say Nintendo is bad I agree with Operation Rainfall's out come. But I do think Reggie could probably do better if he was actually given some studios. As it stands a lot of North America's game development is still heavily influenced or dictated by Japan.
But say Nintendo Of America had three or four internal studios. All of which Reggie had direct control of to make games for the North American market. Say Nintendo EAD Redmond maybe give Reggie some more control in Canada with EAD Vancouver , EAD Montreal! I'm sure if Nintendo gave NOA some internal development studios either by acquiring existing developers or establishing new Nintendo studios from scratch Nintendo of America could create some amazing western content.
Look Reggie needs to be able to choose which markets to target in North America. Then he needs to be able to tailor specific products for those markets. Look at how well he performed with VH1, now I don't know how much influence he had on product development but he was able to do amazing things.
Reggie is a genius and Nintendo is genius. I really don't think Nintendo has been making all that many bad decisions. The pricing of 3DS may have been a little high, but Reggie didn't decide the retail price it was in line with Nintendo's pricing globally. The launch line up was notably weaker but Reggie wasn't responsible for the software that launched. Also Nintendo rarely sells hardware at a loss even during the GameCube era Nintendo kept hardware losses minimal. Obviously Nintendo did expect to sell a large quantity of units.
The price cut and such, these moves are to maintain market share and try to keep software sales up. Nintendo needs hardware sales to be high enough to attract third parties and help Nintendo sell software. It was a necessary move made by Nintendo and again not likely soully Reggie.
I'm not saying Reggie is entirely innocent of any blame. Rather that most of Nintendo's moves have been typical Nintendo moves. These moves have kept Nintendo in business longer then any of their competitors. If Reggie was actually doing things that weren't Nintendo moves I would attribute them entirely to him. But I don't see all that many of his actions that aren't Nintendo moves. Then again as I said its not like Nintendo's stupid but if your upset with the moves Nintendo is making. Lashing out at Reggie and even NOA is probably not hitting the target. If you don't like how Nintendo operates then Japan is the one that you need to be upset with.
Nintendo in Japan is following the strategies that made them successful and kept them successful. The focus on Japan is important because Japan is what made them successful. But I think that Nintendo could benefit by creating North American products in North America, these products could potentially sell in Japan as well. Not saying Nintendo is making a bad decision but give NOA some more freedom, maybe while Japan gets Captain Rainbow and Xenoblade, Nintendo in America gets a unique brand new FPS maybe an RTS or third person shooter/action adventure. But of course as I argued in another thread, it is important that Nintendo keeps offering unique experiences so creating a Halo clone wouldn't be great. Nintendo would likely create a unique take on the FPS genre. Lets face it Nintendo needs to expand outside of Japan as well as inside Japan. Look at North America, Montreal, Vancouver , Redmond there is so much talent and Nintendo is missing out. Square, Capcom, Koei all the major Japanese players are expanding development to North America to better target the western market which is growing. It would likely be a very good investment for Nintendo to move in more into NA.
Holy freaking crap why would they list a thread by me, I looked at most of the other results and they are all professional articles. Well i hope people read this article. Realize that Reggie is really not the scape goat for all of Nintendo's problems. In fact its funny that Nintendo themselves haven't used Reggie as a scape goat. Iwata has taken responsibility and so has Nintendo's heads in Japan. Why the media and analysts are blaming Reggie for everything is beyond me.
