You're absolutely right that the leak came out before the Surface and I think even before E3. However, I think it was just a big mistake by the leaker who pieced together different info into a single idea. We now know MS has full win8 integration with 360 and neXtBox via Smartglass. We now know Surface is the new tablet experience that is kinda a child of the original Surface full table device. We also have solid rumors that the rest of the specs are fairly close to the continuous rumors of Durango. But, that won't be confirmed for awhile. MS won't name the next Xbox the same as their tablets. It will have a unique name. I really think this is just some leaker getting various info on Ms products and kinda merging them together. |
That's why I thought the device name "Xbox Surface" sounded legit and that was before the new tablet Surface was announced. Either way, what you say is also true, with all the convergence devices been launched left and right, the tablet Surface a few days ago and Windows Phone 8 today, adding another 7" device into the mix sounds like an overkill even for Microsoft.
Seems some users have already jumped over the dubious specs, good stuff!

Not a bad idea, but it would be nearly all still rumor at this point beyond some specific control stuff for WiiU. On my next upgrade of the OP I'll have to do that.
Is there any info that´s as close as we get to an official confirmation about the Wii U´s RAM?
I think I read somewhere the RAM would be about 3 times the size of the one in the 360, which would make it around 1.5GB.

Dude, I cant compare the specs properly as I cant read them .
You might want to add a section in your OP.
Like CPU:
???>???=???
GPU:
???>???>???
Ram
???=???>???
Yay!!!

I would but right now there is still conflicting rumors in regards to WiiU and PS4 power levels.
You could have 720>wiiu>ps4 or 720>ps4>wiiu or ps4>720>wiiu based on various levels of each major component.
I think its safe to say at this point based on rumors and educated guesses that MSony are targeting similar power levels that will be more powerful than WiiU but not anywhere near the degree of this gen's gap. Probably more similar to PS2 to Xbox/GC differences.
As things become clearer, I will definitely put up simple equations like that.
Edit: I updated the 2nd post with your recommendation. Figured I could clear it up a bit and still take into account the rumor variations.
Updated OP. Added some simplicity and refined various names and features.
PS3 APU = Steamroller CPU + Tahiti GPU.
Now we can talk about power... the HD 7950/7970 is way better choice than HD 7670.
Problem still is that the GFlops mentioned in the source mentioning the HD 79xx would be more in line with a HD 78xx.
Most (on various other websites) assume that whoever wrote the article doesn't know much about hardware and it's simply a typo (HD 79xx is way overpowered for a gaming console and produces too much heat). PS4 would easily cost $600+ again if they use that piece of hardware.
But even a HD 78xx would be great hardware for next gen.
Any rumor with an HD 79xx based GPU can be thrown in the trash as the author obviously made it up.
An HD 79xx GPU is far too big (die size), too hot (200+ watts) and too expensive to even be considered.
A rumor is one thing but an HD 79xx rumor is just someone trying to get his to his website.
