Depends, really.
If they are the only ones to cut, yes. Without a doubt.
If Sony does another cut, then it will be close.

xbox will NOT win 2012. people here seem to think that the ps3 has no exclusives next year, no price cut, no games planned or anything. ps3 has alot of good exclusives coming out next year that will push hardware. some have already been named, (final fantasy, twisted metal, last guardian etc).. aswell as games we havent even heard about yet, possibly a god of war 4, agent, aswell as new IP's by sony's own studios. theres also one last price cut in it to make it $199 which is the mass market price. once that happens its sales will skyrocket. xbox obviously will move alot of consoles when the usual call of duty comes out and halo 4, but ps3 still has the technology and power still in it to make it relevant next year.
2012 will be much the same as 2011 really. xbox will have a substantial lead in america, whilst ps3 will lead in emeaa by a long way and especially in Japan. ofcourse im not forgetting that the xbox will get a price cut. 100% sure this will happen. yes this will boost sales but i think sony will cut the price to $199 which will cancel out the xbox boost in the long run.

So? that franchise is a shadow of its formerself and it's not going to set the world alight, this isn't the PS2 era you know. FF will do little for HW. |
Even if its a shadow its still pretty solid. Never mentioned setting the world alight. This year even before the price cut it outsold the 360 easily, the difference was above 500k.
The 360 is going to take some time to get a price cut next year, obviously the PS3 is going to have an advantage till that time, couple it with an exclusive like FF v 13 and it will have some effect. I think the PS3 will have another $50 price cut next year, its 2012, and if they have plans for next gen they need a price cut. Also wiiu is releasing, and in such circumstances neither of the consoles can afford to be at a high price point.

I've read nothing of a FFXIII-2 bundle in the US, only in Japan and it will be released on December 12.

For the sake of their shareholders, I hope SON¥ won't do another price cut next year.

...their next gen console will likely be announced next year so I don't see how the shareholders would see a small price cut as a bad thing. |
They're releasing the PSVita next year in the west and rumor has it, it'll take them 3 years to start making a profit from it. If you take into account SON¥'s current economic woes, unfavorable currency exchanges and what they project to spend on R&D for the PS4, a price cut is really not in their best interest. Remember also: they don't make a cent from online play. Something has got to give.

thread solved!
Interesting one. Bookmarked for later. I want to see how next few weeks play before considering next year options too much. But I will say it's possible.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
