Forums - Sony - Why are people trying to save HDDVD

if HD DVD  lost then bluray would be the winner this leads to all our favorite movies on one formate instead of having to buy 2 player. bluray has the larger userbase so it make more since to let bluray win. what wrong with one formate look how dvd turned out.

And just look how DVD+-R(W) turned out.

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

the people trying to save HD DVD are those that only own HD DVD players, and they don't want their player to be obsolete because that woulod mean they will have to buy Blu-ray player just so they can continue to enjoy HD movies.

also i want to add that the people who say they hate sony and think bluray is like betamax. well its not. beta had support from mainly sony and vhs has all the movie support now this time arround hd dvd is supported by mainly toshiba where bluray has sony, samsung, sharp, panasonic, hitachi, philips and all other well known brnad names. also bluray has more movie studios supporting it

It would not lead to all our movies being on it. It took mainstream success for that to happen to DVD, not getting rid of the DIVX format (which is not the same as the DivX codec).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

The real question is:

Why the hell do people care about Blu-ray?

DVD is the best digital medium. When something goes digital, it doesn't get better.

High Definition doesn't make the picture quality better. It formats the image to fit your TV.

In English, it takes full screen, throws it out the window, and takes 16:9 ratio and formats that ratio to fit your TV screen while removing the black bars that you would have on a 4:3 ratio TV.

I don't know, maybe they're afraid of Sony's rootkits?

One HAD to go away, or else recordable DVDs could not have caught on. This is what people here are insisting. Or could they just be making a wrong-headed assumption? Could even Warner be, NOT for dropping HD-DVD, but for their reason for doing so?

I think some people are still bitter over Sony pushing the format on gamers through the PS3, which resulted in a more expensive console, a shorthanded launch day, and a lot of trouble for developers to try to figure out what to use that 25GB of space for when they're used to working with 4.7GB or so.

I don't mind the format itself, but I was really expecting it to tank like LDs did. I should have kept in mind that there really wasn't that much difference between the Bluray and HDDVD, as there was between LDs and VHS.

I'm actually kinda looking forward to being able to do stuff like get LotR on 1 - 3 Bluray discs instead of 12 DVDs. right now though, DVD is plenty for me. Probably won't be for another 2 - 5 years before HDTVs and bluray players drop in price to make it wrothwhile.
