Uncharted 3. No other game has me pumped and jumping out of my seat in the heat of action.

I'd like Gears' story more if it wasn't so boring for me that I literally either put down the controller after 1-2 hours or want to goto sleep after that amount of time, but the game play mechanic in those games are good and the MP is good. Uncharted is more a jack of all trades that does everything really well. From what I've played though, BF3 PC MP, Tribes Ascend, and Firefall kill them both in the game play department as far as shooters go (that means I won't spend much time on MP with Gear3 and U3,) so the decision from my end would be their single player experience(Gears3 and U3,) and I have to say: Gears3 SP is dumb, Epic knows how to craft a game with good game play mechanics, but as far as story goes, it's no better than Halo without their ridiculous books. It's the difference of "The Expendables"(things blow up real well) to "Saving Private Ryan"(good overall) when you compare Gears 3 and U3 SP. That's all I have to say as a guy with options.

gears obviously wins...is this a joke?

It isn't as impacting as U2 for sure, but it's a better game. It's the OOT effect.

Uncharted 3

That doesn't really have anything to do with the issue at hand, but I will say that I agree: Uncharted 2 was the better Uncharted, if only because the writing was better. I liked the relationship between Drake and Elena in 3, nice and understated and sweet (the fact that this relationship is the best part of the game is kind of exemplary of my problems with Uncharted as a series), but on the whole the narrative in 2 was more compelling, cohesive, and featured better characters.

Uncharted takes the cake in every aspect for me, I still feel it's an over-rated series and Uncharted 3 was a bit of a let down, but I still feel it's a lot better than Gears. I never really liked Gears that much, can't see what's so special about it, I'm still going to get Gears 1 and 3 to see if I can get into it though.

EDIT: Should have paid more attention to the thread title. I've only played Uncharted 3, but I feel that it went downhill from Uncharted 2. If Gears 3 is significantly better than Gears 2 then they could be pretty closely matched.

Quite a few people in this thread seemed to have only played UC3 and not Gears 3 yet or ever, so that's all good.  You recognized it.

Gears 1 is weird to go back and play after playing 2, and Gears 3 is so fluid and every shot hits what you're aiming at perfectly... much more refined game than 2.  The dedicated servers work wonders, and between Beast mode and the new Horde mode, plus Arcade and all the different multiplayer types... endless amounts of things to do compared with the first two games in the series.

I have yet to try to Uncharted games, as I don't know anyone with a PS3 who has them, but from what I hear people like 2 better even if 3 looks better.  But I don't think I've run into anyone who likes the previous gears better than 3.  They may not like the new guns because noobs run around with them and get kills, but other than that, it's much better in every possible way. 

The only thing I miss about Gears 2 was the shotgun battles and the one on one macho fights you could have.  All that is gone in Gears 3 as the fights last 3 seconds before someone is dead.  You seem to move about 50% faster in gears 3, which makes for far faster-paced gameplay, but harder to stay alive.  When I stopped playing Gears 2, I was playing at a 2.3 K/D or around that, but in gears 3, I'm at a 1.4 about.  I think it's better for people who either sucked at Gears 2 multiplayer or never played gears before at all, because everyone has a chance to get a kill with a sawed off shotgun now.  Worse for people like me who were really good at not dying, but it is more fun to play.
