Excellent! This will do exactly nothing to allay Rol's fears.

^Was thinking exactly this.

What better combination than using the new controller as the shield.

Also, this is the first thing that entered my mind when I first thought about Zelda Wii U. Could be hella cumbersome, though.

Could be? The question is if it would work at all. I guess you people are thinking Wiimote in one hand, Wii U controller in the other hand. So you would be trying to hold the Wii U controller like a shield while simultaneously using its Slide pad to move your character. Yeah, that would work great.

On a more serious note, what exactly is Khuutra's comment about? I guess it means that the Wii U is a failure by default which would be correct.

The only way I could see it working would be if there was some kind of handle attachment released for the tablet along with the game, allowing you to hold it like a shield. Perhaps said attachment could have its own analog stick to aid movement (think about a nunchuk connected to the bottom of the tablet, which also grips it from beneath, or a shield handle with an analog stick in the middle). Then combat sections could be about the Wiimote and nunchuck movement, in addition to using the screen on the shield to deflect attacks and/or display additional information, like some kind of visor mode in Metroid Prime, i.e. No use of the tablet's buttons or touch screen during these sections of the game.

Outside of combat the shield could then have other abilities which could rely on buttons/touchscreen etc, for puzzle solving, navigation, crafting and what-not...

Regarding Khuutra's comment, I took it as a reference to your remarks in the Zelda SS selling 20 million thread. Aonuma says in the interview here that they can't go back to buttons, only to say two questions later that he wants to take full advantage of the Wii U controller, thus contradicting himself.

Lol how would you even hold the controller with one hand? Unless they have an add on handle like they have n real shields but that’s kind of crazy :P

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

That's it, having a handle with a nunchuck, when the screen is pointing outwards it displays a shield that shows different stages of damage and when you flip it towards you see a menu, map or visor - jejeje. I'd be funny if they can mix both control options.

It could also be used as a simple map, inventory, etc; or used by a co-op player that plays as Link's guide, using the gyro to look around and help you out.

A bowling ball attachment that you can stuff the WiiUmote in and use it to roll a bomb.

That peripheral is only valid when you reach the Ham-Ham dungeon.

using the WiiUmote as an x-ray device to see Zelda's undies!

To gyro Zelda or Gannon, hmmm....

I could see them using the new controller and making you hold it up to the TV screen as a sort of "Lens of Truth" to uncover secrets. Other than that I really don't see how motion controls will work with the new controller vs the Wiimote and nunchuk.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

This doesn't reveal much at all, I mean we all knew motion controls were here to stay. Though I can't see how they could use the new WiiU tablet and the Wiimote at the same time efficiently. I think Nintendo is going to have to do some serious innovating and thinking to make both motion and tablet controls work in unison for the new Zelda. I know the WiiU controller does have some motion capabilities but it isn't capable of performing the same actions as the Wiimote did with Skyward Sword, I can't see myself swinging my tablet around wildly to slice and dice my opponents all while controlling link with both the buttons and touch screen! This will be interesting!

I loved the controls in Red Steel II and Wii Sports Resort. But I think he should wait to see how Skyward Sword sales will perform before taking that decision.

I hate that they are teasing us already, can't they wait till we're done with SS?

I don't want to start anticipation for the next Zelda this early and end up waiting for years

Thanks for telling us nothing Eiji! Other than that they have started on it already, that is great news! I will miss old control for Zelda and possibly other games in the future. But as long as it is really good I will be happy.

I'm not too sure about that. Don't let go of that wish. Remember that the Wii U controller is the main form of control and whil eit does have, motion sensors, and gyroscopes in it, it is still main a classic style controller, with the advanced screen option. So I mean, for a Zelda HD game not to take use of those controller buttons will not only be very confusiong for consumers, but a failure even. The idea that a Wii U Zelda must adopt motion control means that would need a Wiimote Plus as the main controller. I personally really detest that idea.
