This doesn't surprise me at all. In fact I believe I said their was a 75% chance that Nex-Box would launch in 2012 alongside WiiU. In the end I am guessing Microsoft is revealing it at CES to get a jump on Sony and have a chance to announce the platform without competing for air waves with Nintendo. Also it is in line with the many rumors that studios have had dev kits for a while now and the fact that in 2008 Microsoft had begun hiring next generation software developers.

Everything suggested a 2012 release date, I will go further and say I strongly suggest that Halo 4 will be a launch title. I think the lack of screens and video and concrete info about 360 version gives credence to the fact that it is a next generation title. 343 is the company that began hiring next generation software developers so early and I doubt very much that they would start the next trilogy on the old 360! I'd say I think theirs an equal 75% chance that Halo 4 will be a launch title!

Well it would be a bad idea from a revenue point of view... but if I was MS Id go for the kill.  Bundle the thing free with the next xbox.

MS are being way too charitable at the moment. I honestly believe it is in MS's hands to do some serious damage to their competitors at the moment, especially sony.  Drop the price for the 360 now, launch the nextbox asap and realistically they could cause some very very serious damage to an ailing company.  Not neccessarily a good thing for consumers but a very good thing for MS.

It [bundling Halo 4 for free] seems to be the only realistic scenario, if they want to go for the kill. Since the 360 and PS3 were basically dependent on each other after both had a slow start, nobody really outdid the other, because virtually everything went multiplatform. If Microsoft wants to damage Sony, they need to build a large enough userbase to justify exclusive development for their platform.

i think Next Gen will be interresting, and i guess that bundling Halo with the next Console might be worth alot - but i wonder what they do with the Media games are shipping on. I 'Think' Sony may have the Edge over Microsoft, since Blu Ray is futureproof, due to massive ammount of Storage (dunno if those 400gb enabled BRs were just shittalk tho') but yeah, microsoft has to invent, while Sony can stay with what they have right now.

But it wouldnt be Microsoft if they dont come up with something, no?

I doubt it. I expected a launch in 2012 but by now I doubt it.
If there would have been a deep price cut this holiday season, there would be the next box in 2012. But now?
And an announcement in January? 2 Weeks after holidays?

Xbox does what Nintendon´t....hmmm :0

No new Xbox next year. Not happening. This is all wishful thinking or really bad speculation. You might hear some rumblings around E3 next year, and M$ may even make an official announcement about the Nextbox just to steal a bit of Nintendo's thunder as they prepare to fully unveil the Wii U, but no way are we getting it before 2013.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I dont think it will launch in 2012, not possible. Must likely fall 2013 with PS4 releasing in 2014 so 360 will still have 1 year advantge. But really the only reason PS3 didnt cut the lead right away was price so things can change with PS4.

If the trend is the same like last generation I can see microsoft winning the next one...

really, really hope so.

Steal a march on the competition again and drive some sales... they can get a massive potential lead this time, not just the 5m lead they had last time.

thats fantasy land,you're in.Jst joking

you really think MS can jst do anything with the imperding global financial crisis incoming?

also you think there competitors have nothing?

plus they don't have a good ecosystem ready
