While options are decent path for the companyto take. ( I have nothing against this per say).

However, I feel the bottom line is to make more games by bioware accessible, and if we look at Dragon Age II, the fans will not like bioware games being more "accessible".

Accessibility is a double edged sword. Loyal fans, might give up on the company, if they ever feel the product is declining.

Fans don't like Dragon Age II because Bioware made the "Action Mode" the only way to play it.

The fact that most of us are saying that we will play the RPG mode proves that we want the option to play "as it should", and give the simple action game to those that are only looking for that.

While I agree, as I have nothing against this story or this case. I just fear the bottom line that seems to be focused on by Bioware for the future, infact I still fear Mass Effect 3 will be more action focused (I will still love the franchise, but I want more out of the RPG elements, that bioware can bring to the table).

On another note I know I will always pick the RPG mode if given the option.

100 % agree.

Wow ... they are not even trying to hide the fact that they are placating the call of duty/mindless shooter crowd. If there is a Mass Effect 4, they will probably just do away with conversation choices and character/weapon customization of any kind. Mass Effect 5 will be a crossover with Gears of War.

I don't think they will go that far. Not in a short time-frame like that. Plus EA has way too many "mindless" shooters between publishing agreements or development studios.

Well, Gears is set on a 'human' planet that isn't Earth. Could be the basis of a fairly decent story-arc. The discovery of another planet that a race of humans believe to be their homeworld and a mystery as to how and why they ended up there. Would always tie in niecly with why the Locust wanted to elimate the humans, Sera was their planet to begin with (or something like that), with the Lambent being another Reaper experiment.

(Also, if what I just wrote completely contradicts what happened in Gears, its worth noting I haven't played that yet)

I am not that optimistic. It will not take long for EA to compare the sales figures for Battlefield 3 to Mass Effect 3 and realize that one franchise clearly sells more. I can't blaim them either ... shooters by their nature are short experiences which means there can be a greater total amount of product sold where as an RPG can last for hundres of hours. Look at Elder Scrolls ... 2 games this gen compared to 8 or so call of duty. Plus, from what I have observed talking to most people in a retail environment, many gamers use shooters as a kind of frame of reference. If a game can be advertised as "like Gears of War" or "like Call of duty" more of the shooter crowd will be willing to invest in a new product beyond the annual Battlefield and CoD. All of this translates into more sales for EA if they can pump out more shooters and turn already existing franchises (like Mass Effect and, next year, with Syndicate from looks of it)into more shooters.

Mass Effect 3 may be the last one in the series that I buy day one (and it is mostly just because I want closure on the franchise). It is a shadow of its former self, and the funny thing about it is the fact that even the original Mass Effect was not really big on complex RPG elements ... hardly any skills or character customization and minimal weapon / armor customization.

It would never happen unless Gears went multiplatform, and EA and Epic decide to partner up for something like this. I am sure there are dozens of fanfics out there about this though. I was only joking about he crossover, but it would be kind of interesting ... too bad these things never seem to happen in gaming aside from with companies like Nintendo who just own all of their popular franchises (resulting in crossovers like Super Smash for example).

I like this post because it completely disregards the fact that all evidence, i.e. released footage, shows that there is far more in the way of weapon and skill customization than either of the previous games.

I must say there seems to be unjustified animosity towards this when infact it could be just what this game needs.

Raging RPG fanboy - "Oh no! in order to get the RPG game that I want I need to click two more times than I ought to"

Radom Kid on the Street - "clearly don't like RPG games then do you :|"

I mean seriously I love RPG games but atleast wait until they actually release the game to start flinging shit their way... and only if RPG mode turns out poor at that.

nice

Mass Effect: Legends of Sera could be more likely than you realise. Mass Effect itself is a former Xbox exclusive that was acquired by EA, the only catch being the original game cannot be released for the PlayStation. If Microsoft and Epic's partnership was to colapse and EA took the series on, a crossover title would not be prohibted. Microsoft would simply block the release of the Gears trilogy on rival platforms.

That sounds pretty awesome actually. I think I'll be playing the story mode, the characters and the story are way more important to me than the combat is.

RPG mode for me!! But this is awesome news. ME3 looks like it can be all things to all people.

-on an unrelated note, I'm having this crazy case of deja vu right now. Like I typed this post before about ME3 and wound up getting into a huge debate about how no game can be "all things to all people" and that it would be a half assed version of each. Weird.
