Hexen has a subtitle called Beyond Heretic. It's the spiritual continuation of the Heretic: Serpent Riders game, because Heretic did had a sequel (which is a TPS not a FPS).

Raven Software is one of my favorite developers of all time.  The three you mentioned were great, and I think soldier of fortune was by them as well.  Hell, I even loved Singularity.

Ah yes, SoF was indeed from them as well. How could I forget it? Probably one of the goriest games of all time, just grab a Sawed-off shotgun and go shoot the limbs out of everything that moves XD. 

I've yet to try out Singularity, though I've had a lot of good feedback from it from various users here, so I might give it a try in these next couple of months.

Raven Software and 3D Realms were amongst my top 5 developers back in the 90s for PC games

I bought Singularity about 2 months ago, on the strenght of Raven's name alone and was not disappointed.  Not a ton replay value IMO, but a damn fun single player campaign.  Well worth the reduced price now.

3d Realms will be missed.  Man, I loved Rise of the Triad too (that was Apogee I think); good memories here!

Actually 3D Realms was just a brand name used by Apogee software when they started to focus more on 3D gameplay. First game to be used under 3D Realms was Terminal Velocity, one of my favourite games of all time.

Me too.  It was great.  I think I've got the disk somewhere - I must load it up and see how it fares these days.  There were quite a few custom map packs I remember playing at the time too.  One of the few games I feel genuinely didn't get the sales its reviews and quality warranted.



Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I wonder if it's available on Steam.  I still have the original disc, but doubt I could get it running on my Win 7 box.  Wouldn't mind doing a nostalgic run through this game for old time's sake!

If it runs on XP, it usually will on win7. I'm still playing UT 1999 on my win7 PC :D

@PullusPardus: Have you tried the Unreal series? Yes, I've read the first post and there is Unreal Tournament there, but the Unreal series (not tournament) is closer to what you want. I don't like it very much though.
