We all know that one of the cargo ships full of PS3s from China capsized, so they had to ship more of them.

But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. So, the PS2 has a ~4.4 million lead on the DS still. I starting to doubt if the DS is ever going to outsell the PS2, especially with the DS slowly dying out in Japan. It also means that VGC must be slightly undertracking the PS2 still.

Not that we will know for sure, but I think that had much more to do with televisions. Their gaming division probably profited or broke even. Hopefully, they have a more profitable plan with the PS4. I think they are just trying to keep the momentum going with the PS3 so that they will still be an important player in the industry.

Well with that
X360 shipped - 57.6M
PS3 Shipped - 55.53M
Difference - 2.07M
I wonder if they can pass up the 360 this holiday?

The division is so bloated now that it's impossible to tell how much the playstation segment is actually affecting it. Back when they were split between consumer and networked products & services, the CPS division had more than double the revenue of NPS. In the same quarter in 2009 CPS lost $362 million and NPS made $99 million.
Wow, I'm kinda shocked that Sony is more worried about market share with M$ then posting profit. Why would they do a price cut and not make profits from 3.7 units shipped. Very puzzling.
