wow, recognizing largely terrorist groups now, are we UN?
if we didnt need any more proof that the UN is a giant socialist agency hell bent on destroying anything and everything the democracy and capitalism stands for, (basically the antithesis of what the US was founded on).
the UN needs to die

The biggest terrorist group is your country, not Palestine.

It's a stupid move that will only prolong the chances at a real peace, but hey... it happens.

i disagree that it will only do that.  it also harms the work that unesco is able to do, since over a fifth of their budget just disappeared...with possibly more countries following suit.  these jokers that voted for this arent likely to replace the lost funding.  this goes for the other groups that the pa reps have said they will attempt to join as well.

Why does the US supply 20% of the budget of an organization with 170 members. As it can clearly be seen in this instance, its not like the US's vote is any more powerful then any other nation's in the UNESCO, so it should be funding 0.5% of the organization. Countries complain and complain about the US trying to influence the world but instantly accept any assistance given to them.

While I'm all for a two state solution, this doesn't help with anything. I guess its a symbolic victory, but the price is too high. It will only set back current negotations, because it will embolden Palestine.

The Israeli ambassador is really named Nimrod?

How fitting.

Now the US is entirely entitled to use its money as it sees fit, however Americans of conscience should protest the moronic (Nimrod) law that was put in place by our overpowered Israel lobby

Please. The UN exists in part only to legitimize American global policy, as well as those of the other victorious Allied powers of the second world war (hence the security council). The organization would have to be fundamentally reformed before it could ever hope to take a stance against neo-Imperialist abuses, as it is the security council keeps it paralyzed from being able to enact positive reform in anything but the most common-sense cases (like food aid to Somalia), and the quick breach of consensus amongst the old Allied Powers means that the Security Council itself is fundamentally paralyzed unless certain members abstain (as in the Korean War)

All these Americans who wail about the UN as some sort of socialist bogey-man that somehow poses some sort of insidious threat make me laugh

Makes you wonder about the philological evolution of the word from its Hebrew meaning to its currently English colloquial equivalency to "idiot."

Yeah.... but UNESCO did without US funding before.  Reagan stopped funding and nobody started it again until George W Bush.
