Forums - Sales - 3DS worldwide sales total 6.68 million, Higher than DS in same timeframe

it's nice to hear that, 3DS is such a great system and has so many great games coming out for every style that it sounds almost insane not to sell, and it will pick up good enough before Vita launch which will take its time to pick up, too

and who cares if they lose money for every 3DS sold anyway, they'll get them back once sales increase and manufacture costs drop, it was right to drop the price at an early time, so gain more userbase before Vita launch

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

So will they start making a profit by next fiscal year 2012? Manufacturing costs will surely go down by then.

if i'm not mistaken, DS launched months later in other regions, so it's unfair to say that 3DS is doing better considering most of the DS sold at the time was Japan only?

I was about to say this.

However, the fact that it's even close is still mighty impressive, considering the original DS had a holiday period under its belt already in many regions, while 3DS is just coming up on its first one.  Not to mention that, even after adjusting for inflation, the price-dropped 3DS is still a bit more expensive than the DS was.

Too bad about Nintendo`s profits this quarter, though.

Absolutely everything I wanted to say.  I must be getting old.  In the past, I'd be the first person to pounce on a thread like this!!

You're a tiger, but I'm a mighty lion.  RAWR!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Wow I had no idea that the 3DS sold slightly more than the DS in the same timeframe.

So 3ds still outsold ds with most of the time being ridiculously overpriced, the rest of the time still more expensive than the ds launch price, NO HOLIDAY SEASON, little games and smartphones now breathing down their neck .
Not bad.

Yes but the portable marked expans incredible these years to.. meaning even if smartphone's take some of the more casuals, Nintendo maybe still end up whit a bigger userbase. Not Bad.

3DS's initial launch was better than DS's, but quickly lost steam because of the high price and lack of games.  The original DS had the same problems with lack of quality software during the first year, but it's much lower price point and b/w compatibility with GBA games kept it chugging along until the redesigned version came out and games like NSMB and Mario Kart DS sent it's sales into the stratosphere.

I don't see the same thing happening with 3DS.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
