Nice! But a bit too early

EDGE is still mean and harsh, so they are not the new Famitsu.
Anyway, amazing score for Zelda!

It's not the harshness that defines EDGE's way of scoring. It's that obsession with small and meaningless details and those absolutely unrelevant criterias to judge a game's worth. They're like an impatient and intolerant pregnant woman.

The writing in EDGE's reviews is great but it comes out as haughty. I imagine them as a smarmy clique of self-important nerds that thrive on glory because they've been diminished so much at school.

Phew.

I've met the guys at EDGE and worked closely with them in the past as a freelancer for PSM3 Magazine (in the same building at Future Publishing). You couldn't be more wrong, they're just a normal bunch of (slightly nerdy, yes) guys who love gaming and subscribe to the ideal that a perfect score should only be for a pretty much perfect game, and look on games from a mature, detached perspective, not jumping on the fadwagon and giving every FPS a 96%.

Except they gave MW2 9/10.

MW2 =/= every FPS.

I'm just saying they don't score on hype, they use the whole scale and score on true innovative merit. They're just a normal bunch of guys, I've had a pint with them down the pub. 'Smarmy clique' is not fair, is all im saying.

Well I did say ''I imagine them as a smarmy clique'' not that I accuse them of being so.

All I know is that their criterias to score and review a game aren't nearly close to mine.

Also, your hype point would be valid if they didn't give GTAIV 10/10.

They just seem to be inconsistent.

Why did u see? why? ;_;
Nintendo is going to spoiler all the game before it's released, so, no more trailers for me. I have downloaded the Harp video, but won't see! I know I can, I know.

 I had the same feeling, but I couldnt help myself and I ended up watching it a few times :D

A lot of people here have a grudge on EDGE for giving FFXIII a 5/10 which was in my opinion, pretty spot on.

Exactly.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

I've always liked Edge's reviews--there have been the odd ones I don't agree with, but on the whole, I think they do a good job. Although a 10 is great from Edge, and it's great for Skyward Sword in the sense it increases the hype, the actual text of the review is always more important to me than the score--the full review should be online by mid-week, so I'll read it then. Hopefully more reviews will appear soon, and we'll get a better sense of whether or not this really is a revolutionary Zelda!

We need more harsh critics these days! Too many 9s and 10s given out like dropping crumbs on the floor for ants to eat up!

Also, I wanted to state, (even if tad off-topic) that as soon as Skyward Sword gets released, that is the moment fans will suddenly consider Twilight Princess a masterpiece and a great game.

lol Wind Waker comes to mind as well

Even though EDGE dish ot the 10/10 scores all too easily these days this is still good news. Looks like this should be an epic game, surpassing Spirit Tracks and Twilight Princess. Maybe The Big N has made a Zelda game that surpasses Ocarina Of Time?
