Forums - Sales - WW UP - 15th October

Okay so, I'll say what I've been saying for Months.

Nintendo launched the 3DS way too soon, to help with the financials. This has screwed up big style. They're losing profit and sales are tanking due to a lack of quality (Or any?) SW releasing.

Hardly any games were ready for the system, DS was selling perfectly fine as it was (with profits) and Nintendo themselves only had poor efforts on show for it. Nintendogs and Cats? Steel Diver? A Remake of an N64 game? Really? You can do better than that, Nintendo...

Nintendo should have done what I think, was planned originally. Released it this Holiday season.

March - Cut DS price, remain profitable.
September/October - Release 3DS along with plenty of games, release DSlite/DSi in lower-market countries for a cheap price. PS2 style.
November/December - Release the 3DS Mario games, Monster Hunter, real system sellers

This would have ensured huge sales, huge profits at the $250 price point, plenty more games releasing around launch and plenty of games releasing within the next 6 Months. There wouldn't be a need for a pricecut for another whole Year at the least due to there being support for it, Nintendo would be profiting on 3 systems. Instead, they decided to ruin 3DS' first Year on the market.

Makes you wonder what goes through the heads of Nintendo management.

OT: Excellent PS3 and 360 numbers, and the DS finally falls below the PSP.

Anyone got the full adjustment numbers?

While I see almost all of Nintendo's decisions concerning the 3DS as FUD (the early launch and desperate price cut), it was probably necessary to stay competitive with Sony.  Had they launched in Nov/Dec WW at $250, even with the Vita having its delayed WW launch in Feb, Sony would have had no problem overtaking Nintendo's handheld.  It just has more hype (especially in Japan) and would have been seen as the better value at $250.  Now, Nintendo may have a fighting chance with its lower price and early launch.  Of course, we'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

@ OP

The PS3 is back on top, and I see it staying that way for AT LEAST a few more weeks.  It's looking very doubtful, maybe even impossible, for the 360 to take the #1 spot this year WW.  Japan, and to a lesser extent EMEAA, just isn't going to let that happen.

Very good week for HW,decent, but nothing more, for SW, despite the big launches. Kinect has a modest resurrection, not thriving but not dead either. Balance Board is sinking, dragged down by Wii, a sin considering up until a short time ago it was resisting and doing better than Kinect WW, despite the poor performance of its mother platform. Yes, this week it grew a little, but it's constantly in the lowest part of the Top40.

And after adjustments it looks like XB360 and 3DS were first just once each since the beginning of September.

Finally: HW charts are now Top50 instead of Top40! Not as good as the old Top200, but something better than Top40.

Edit: all the previous stuff WW

Now about Japan: slow week except for Nintendo HW and Wii and XB360 SW, with the latter, despite a lot smaller than the biggest three, PS3, Wii and PSP SW, up a lot, just like Wii SW, around +120%, and beating both 3DS and DS SW.

MediaWorld, one of the biggest EU chains, made some good offers on PS3 and a really crazy one on the 320GB-FIFA bundle, with thousands units available in each nation, so not just a limited supply loss leader to attract people in the stores, but a beefy one that worked for some days before selling out despite selling like crazy. GameStop followed suit with an offer very appealing not bound to a particular, limited supply bundle, but offering normal PS3s with a controller and a game at buyer's choice at a very appealing price too, less than the new official price for the console alone. I haven't checked yet, but surely their competitors had to follow suit too. 3DS, DS, XB360 and Wii had very nice offers too, but PS3 had the most expensive entry level model even after the cut, so those additional offers on top of the official ones worked a lot better for it.

I'm extremely curious to see what Nintendo's investor briefing will reveal in regards to European sales.

Given the starting price already low, Wii offers were absolutely crazy, I wouldn't be surprised to see it adjusted up too, Wii and PS3 offers are currently the most noticeable at the two extremes of home consoles price range. BTW big unofficial cuts on Kinect too and it looks like it achieved some results even outside of America this time. So actually every console could be adjusted up, if it wasn't already. About portables, I don't know, current offers don't differ very much from those started when Ninty cut 3DS price, so I'd expect adjustments far less dramatic after the big one made on 3DS. And this as far as the last launches, recent and current price cuts and special offers on HW and bundles go, we still have to see many system seller games in the next weeks and months, including the biggest Nintendo ones, everything could happen.

Awesome PS3 sales.

seriously 360 sales would've been doing a lot better if Japan had contributed significantly....

I guess since Just Dance 3 came out, Just Dance 2 had to jump up as well?

AS for 3DS they do not have any games! What are they doing, just put them out already!

Its because they added the sales of Just Dance in Japan to the totals of Just Dance 2.

Seriously ? Why would they do that with sales? Where did you see that !

Sorry for the late reply mate, just saw your quote.

Here, http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales-data/45671/just-dance-2/

not sure why they did that, it would have made more sense if they add it to Just Dance 1, as they share the same layout if I'm not wrong.
